Kentucky Army Guard troops return from Kosovo

Prestonsburg unit instrumental in east European peacekeeping mission

 

 

FRANKFORT, KY - March 3, 2005 - More than 80 Kentucky Army National Guard Soldiers are scheduled to return Monday, March 7, after spending a year in support of peacekeeping missions in Kosovo. 

 

The Company C, 206th Engineer Battalion is expected to arrive at the Prestonsburg Armory at approximately 3:00 p.m.

 

While in Kosovo the Soldiers of Company C, 206th Engineer Battalion supported local construction projects in the form of maintaining bridges and roads in addition to conducting security patrols.   

 

There are currently more than 1,800 Kentucky National Guard Soldiers and Airmen mobilized in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Noble Eagle, or participating in peacekeeping operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina.  More than 6,000 Kentucky Guard troops have been mobilized since September 11, 2001.

 

DIRECTIONS:  The Prestonsburg Armory is located on Route 321 between the Big Sandy Community College and Highland Medical Center.
