Toxic Propaganda On Louisville Air Pollution Control District By John Riley
The Courier Journal's political propaganda is nauseating and so obviously blatant. The attack on Sen. Seum is a typical and predictable attempt to manipulate the facts for their political purposes rather than to stick to the facts and engage in honest debate of real issues.
Their ongoing vendetta against Sen. Seum ignores the fact that the overwhelming majority of the citizens in Jefferson County demanded an end to the fraudulent VET program. It was in fact the Air Pollution Control District and the Courier Journal that for years inflated the benefits of VET while ignoring more specific and harmful air pollution issues.
It was in fact overwhelming support from the entire Kentucky State Legislature and then Governor Patton that ended VET by passing legislation championed by Rep. Perry Clark. It was the people of Jefferson County that saw through the smoke screens and distortions spewing out of the APCD and the Courier Journal that demanded an end to an outdated and failed APCD VET program.
Clean air is a serious matter, and it serves no purpose other than political for the Courier Journal to pretend they are concerned about air quality and the health of the citizens of Jefferson County while never seriously questioning the obviously failed policies and effectiveness of the APCD.
Just ask any Rubbertown resident if the APCD was even remotely responsive to their concerns of the past 10-15 years or more. It was apparently more important to emission test cars, which did not clean the air, than to take a serious look at toxic pollution in Rubbertown. Since the citizens of Rubbertown decided to no longer be ignored by the Mayor, APCD and the Courier Journal, the facts and the political pressure are now too great to ignore.
Now the Mayor and the APCD want to over-regulate responsible businesses by implementing the Strategic Toxic Air Reduction (STAR) Program regardless of the cost effectiveness of the program and the effect on those businesses that do take air pollution seriously.
The STAR Program, APCD and the Courier Journal have ignored the issue of increased air pollution caused by the use of reformulated fuel, but there is plenty of paper and ink to continue their political attack on Sen. Seum.
The APCD has in fact failed! Sen. Seum recognizes that fact, and when the facts are known by the citizens of Jefferson County, the Kentucky State Legislature and the Governor again will overwhelmingly support his efforts to instill sanity and honesty in the air pollution issues of Jefferson County.
In the meantime, the Courier Journal can continue spewing its toxic political propaganda and running interference for the colossal failures of the APCD and in doing so it will continue to lose more of its credibility. It surely is enough to make you sick!
