“[State controlled] education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.” – Joseph Stalin

“Every parent in America should be made aware of a presidential initiative called the ‘New Freedom Commission on Mental Health.’ This commission issued a report last year calling for the mandatory mental health screening of American schoolchildren, meaning millions of kids will be forced to undergo psychiatric screening whether their parents consent or not.  At issue is the fundamental right of parents to decide what medical treatment is appropriate for their children.

“Forced mental health screening simply has no place in a free or decent society.  The government does not own you or your kids, and it has no legitimate authority to interfere in your family’s intimate health matters.  Psychiatric diagnoses are inherently subjective, and the drugs regularly prescribed produce serious side effects, especially in children’s developing brains.  The bottom line is that mental health issues are a matter for parents, children, and their doctors, not government.”

- Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), “Texas Straight Talk,” 1/31/05

“We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket trying to lift himself up by its handle.”
-- Winston Churchill

A Few Thoughts         By Theresa Fritz Camoriano

In Nazi Germany, Jews were made the scapegoats for the country’s problems.  As a result, it was considered acceptable to treat them as less than human, and, eventually, to kill them for the good of “society as a whole”.  Socialists are always willing to inflict pain or even death on some individuals for the benefit of others.   (click to read more)

Get Rid of “Reformulated” Gas        By John Riley

The Metro Louisville Air Pollution Control District and the State of Kentucky stand to lose more of their credibility if they ignore the issue of getting rid of the "reformulated" gas that is being used while they discuss the issue of air pollution in Jefferson County and the proposed STAR program.  (click to read more)

AMC (Alternative Minimum Calculation) is a gross misjudgment         By Aaron Morris

Gov. Ernie Fletcher’s tax modernization plan – JOBS for Kentucky – is an ill-fated attempt to begin “stimulating economic investment and job growth ... by removing obstacles to innovation and investment in the Kentucky economy.”

One component of “JOBS” suggests lowering taxes on business profits while levying a new tax on gross receipts.     (click to read more)

Comments to the Legislative Caucus Meeting at Northern Kentucky University Presented on Saturday February 5, 2005        By Bernie Kunkel

Thanks to the legislators for being here and for this opportunity to speak to you all as a group.  My name is Bernie Kunkel and I am from Boone County --- God's country.     The Legislature is aware that tax revenues pouring into Frankfort the last 6 months of 2004 were up 8%.  Also, tax revenues have increased each and every year the last 15 years.  So there is no revenue problem in Frankfort, but there is an enormous overspending addiction as our hard earned tax dollars are spent faster than they arrive. We shouldn't be for more taxes any more than we need bottles of whiskey at an AA meeting. We only enable the growing of government programs when we send more and more to Frankfort.                (click to read more)

When is a pledge not a commitment?        By: Jim Waters

There is nothing quite so marvelous as a promise made and then kept. On the other hand, there’s nothing so appalling as a pledge offered – and then broken – regardless of the circumstances involved.    (click to read more)

Rebuttal to C-J on Smoking Bans       By Terry Gray

In a recent editorial, the Courier-Journal stood on the side of smoking bans, taking sides against GLI.  It cited a survey that was conducted by the University of Kentucky nursing department late last year in which 64% of those surveyed either strongly supported or somewhat supported the ban and 36% strongly opposed or somewhat opposed the ban.   (click to read more)

SCAM ALERT

If you get an envelope from an organisation called the "Internal Revenue Service," DO NOT OPEN IT! This group operates a scam around this time every year. Their letter claims that you owe them money, which they will take and use to pay for the operation of essential functions of the United States government. This is untrue! The money the IRS collects is used to fund various other corporations which depend on subsidies to stay in business.                (click to read more)

TERRY’S TIDBITS       by Terry Gray

In the January 31 Review I told you a little tale about Weyco and that company’s total disregard for personal freedoms.  To recap; Weyco requires that its employees take tests to determine if they are smokers and if they test positive, they fire them.  Employees are not allowed to smoke, period.  See:  NO WORK FOR ADDICTS.  I have some problems with this, as all Americans should.                  (click to read more)

The War Within the War.       By Justin Darr

On March 5th, 2002, long before there was a Camp X-Ray, American Petty Officer Neil Roberts fell out of his helicopter while on an operation in Afghanistan and was promptly bludgeoned, had his throat slit from ear to ear, and was shot in the back of the head by his terrorist captors.    (click to read more)

Why Democrats Lose Elections in Indiana: They aren't dumb. They're asleep.        by Kenn Gividen,  WritersBureau.org

Give the GOP credit. Unlike the Democrats — whose collective IQ seems to register somewhere between a '58 Buick and box of rocks — the Republicans are astutely aware of their political surroundings. That's why they win and Democrats don't.                (click to read more)

Duke, Where's My Car?        By Jonathan David Morris

I have to admit the upcoming Dukes of Hazzard movie has a strong supporting cast. Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville will play the good old boys, Bo and Luke Duke. Willie Nelson will play Uncle Jesse. Burt Reynolds is the surprising—yet promising—choice for Boss Hogg. And, finally, Jessica Simpson will step off the set of her made-for-TV marriage and into some short shorts as the Pride of Hazzard County, Daisy Duke. Granted, most movies based on old shows pack as much punch as Newfound Glory singing Celine Dion—but, so far, this one’s looking pretty good.                 (click to read more)

Lessons from Geese

1. As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an "uplift" for the bird following.  By Flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if the bird flew alone.  Lesson - People who share common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.                (click to read more)

"What is happening in some American mosques...is deeply disturbing. In certain Islamic schools, textbooks spit vitriol against Jews, Christians and other non-Muslims: 'Be disassociated from the infidels, hate them for their religion.' In mosque publications, America is the 'Abode of the Infidel.' The idea of human and civil rights is heresy. Working women are immoral. These views are extreme, they promote violence and they are being espoused right under our noses. We knew this was happening in France, Germany and England but we didn't know the extent of the problem here. It is not happening in all mosques or Islamic schools, by any means, but in those select ones funded by the Saudi government to disseminate the fanatic Wahhabi-style Islam that has its demagogic roots in Saudi Arabia. The Center for Religious Freedom just issued a discomfiting report looking at the spread of hate propaganda in America by Saudi Arabia. The center collected 200 books and other publications from mosques across the country and spent the past two years analyzing them. 'The Saudi textbooks and documents spread throughout American mosques preach a Nazi-like hatred for Jews, treat the forged Protocols of the Elders of Zion as historical fact, and avow that the Muslim's duty is to eliminate the state of Israel,' writes Nina Shea, the Center's director. In addition, they 'instill contempt for America because the United States is ruled by legislated civil law rather than by totalitarian Wahhabi-style Islamic law.' ... In his State of the Union speech, President Bush exhorted the Saudis to encourage democracy in the Middle East. He should also put intense pressure on them to stop fomenting hate within our borders. It jeopardizes our security and is an insult to our tradition of freedom of religious expression. It flies in the face of everything we hold true." --Chicago Sun-Times

“Instead of renewing the Higher Education Act, Congress should phase it out, thereby forcing colleges and universities to compete on price.  That would leave financial aid to the private sector, which can target it far more effectively -- and where it should have been left all along.”

- Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby

"We can't expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism." --Nikita Khrushchev

“Government is the great fiction through which everybody endeavors to

"The federal government has taken too much tax money from the people, too much authority from the states, and too much liberty with the Constitution." --Ronald Reagan

"The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." --Norman Thomas
