Lundy’s Catering to run KY Democratic Partyby Jeff Mario Smith, Guerilla Reporter January 25, 2005
Several years ago, we used to live across town, where we purchased our first home and started our family. Jerry Lundergan was our state government representative in Frankfort. He is from Maysville, my hometown, so I thought that was pretty neat because I dated his sister as a young teenager. I was politically naïve at the time, like most Americans still are, and had no concept of what he stood for. Now that I know what the Demonrat Party is all about, that naivete is history.
Americans, those entertainment-drunk, complacent, and politically ignorant people, have very short attention spans and memories. That is how the power brokers literally get away with murder. We could talk about this for hours and bring up all means of supporting proof, but that would be a tangent. Let’s stick to the mission. How do the short memories of our people relate to Lundergan and the Demonrats?
While a state representative, earning a salary from our taxes, supposedly representing our interests, Jerry Lundergan, and his firm, Lundy’s Catering, were found to be guilty of taking state contracts without bid. That’s right, this salaried elected official was using his influence in state government to prop up the catering business he runs with his brother, but he was caught.
Lundergan fought the charges as all politicians do unless you catch them with the proverbial smoking gun, under the lights, with the cameras rolling, but in the end he was found guilty and lost his seat in Frankfort as our representative. We were pleased to see a crook get his due for once and continued to watch the games from the sidelines. I was slowly losing my political naivete.
Being caught with his hand in the cookie jar and losing his state government elected seat wasn’t enough of a punch for Lundergan. He continued to “work it” with his attorneys until he could get some or all of the charges thrown out, by a Lundergan-friendly judge, on a minor technicality. He later tried to use that technicality as a means by which to have us voters doubt his real guilt and ran for the same representative seat at least two more times. Fortunately, he was defeated both times. I give credit to the voters on that, but have no idea if his malfeasance had anything to do with it. I don’t need to know. It was good enough for me that he could not regain his seat. We need more integrity in Frankfort, not more of what we have had for decades.
I once worked for a company in Frankfort, and we had Lundy’s Catering handle the food for our company picnic. I am not kidding when I say that was the first and only time in my life that I have seen green hot dogs. Years later, I had a chuckle when I learned through national news that there was a riot at an event catered by Lundy’s; I think it was the Woodstock hippie reunion, but I am not sure. Anyway, it appeared that the concertgoers were upset with the “food vendors” overcharging to a “captive audience”. They destroyed catering trailers and really ripped up the place. The paper said that Lundy’s, which lost a lot of equipment in the riot, had the exclusive vending rights for the event. Somehow, I wasn’t surprised.
Now, the Kentucky Demonrat Party would have us hold our collective noses while they place at the helm of their organization one Jerry Lundergan. What is it about Demonrat politicians who get indicted and convicted and are then promoted to positions of prominence within their political party? I don’t get it. Are they that arrogant? Do they think we are that stupid? Wasn’t Julian Carroll’s administration full of malfeasance also, and now he is back in office? I don’t know how any Kentucky democrat could support the KY Democratic Party knowing that Jerry Lundergan is at the top. But then again, this is the party that worships Bill “That depends on what the meaning of the word is is” Clinton, John “Ho Chi” Kerry who committed treason multiple times against his country, and Ted “Chappaquiddick, give me another drink” Kennedy. I guess it all makes sense. Pass me the Teresa Heinz ketchup for that green hotdog, will you?
