David Horowitz Wants Conservatives to Win the Culture War

I spent the past weekend, (1/20 – 1/22, 2005) in St. Louis, MO at the 16^th annual Education Policy Conference sponsored by the Constitutional Coalition. Although geared toward education policies in America, you would have thought it was a gathering of conservative Christian Patriots, and indeed it was, for these are the people carrying the torch for our children and, in the process, trying to save our “One Nation Under God.

Many icons of the conservative movement in America were there, and the featured speaker on the first night was none other than ex-commie and ex-peace-hippie David Horowitz. David sat right in front of me before he got up to speak, and I thought, man, that’s David Horowitz just three feet from me. That was a taste of what was to come the entire weekend.

David’s talk centered on the link between radical Islam and the American Left, and I use that term “American” loosely, for I don’t consider “the enemy within” real Americans. His latest book is called “Unholy Alliance, Radical Islam and the American Left”, and according to David: “Not all dissent is equal, and Americans whose actions are calculated to give aide and comfort to the butchers who murdered 3,000 innocent people on September 11, 2001 are not patriotic at all... they are, in fact, quite the opposite.” Here is the link to purchase the book on his web site: (https://www.donationreport.com/init/controller/ProcessEntryCmd?key=D8Q0U3W0R8).

David quickly explained that he knows the left as well or better than anyone because he was brought up in a communist household, you know, a red diaper baby. He had his epiphany in 1974 and has been battling his ex-allies ever since. He immediately said that we are at war, and the war is being waged in the spheres of culture, freedom, faith, and family. I knew I was in the right place, for he was speaking to my heart at this point. What better than to hear an ex-communist tell us that everything his ex-allies stand for is wrong? It means a lot more when David says it then it does when I say it, and I do say it.

Some of the points made by David Horowitz included…

• We must execute a plan to take back the institutions.
• Democrats and their friends in the media are undermining our interests in the Middle East in order to make us fail. Over 10,000,000 leftist activists took to the streets worldwide in an organized protest when we invaded Iraq. He knows a lot about this because he was involved with doing this very thing during the Viet Nam War himself.
• Islamists are “Secular Marxists.” I took this to mean they are also totalitarian, only their totalitarianism is in the name of a religion as opposed to Karl Marx’s, which is economic in nature and anti-God. He mentioned that they are linked through the concept of “The Enemy of my Enemy is my friend”.
• There are Americans who want our enemies to defeat us. Witness radical Michael Moore, who was invited to sit in Jimmy Carter’s box at the DNC this past election.
• 60’s radicals, who are not very brave people, got student deferments to avoid the draft during Viet Nam an now they are the controllers of our universities. [Author: They never left Never Never Land.]
• These leftover hippies are “ideologically cleansing” the universities and colleges of conservatives and religious people. To them, the University is a political party [Author: Therefore only they belong there.]
• The ratio of Democrats to Republicans on campus faculties is 30 – 1. “Conservatives are as rare as unicorns [on campuses].”
• Universities are now “institutions for social change” rather than institutions of higher learning, hence the earlier political party comparison.
• Leftists are paranoid; witness their reaction to opposition. They know they are doing something wrong, and they don’t want to be found out.
• The Republican Party in each and every state needs to be awakened. They are enabling the left through their inaction.
• Leftists believe they can build a “Tower of Babel” to heaven themselves through creating a “heaven on earth”.
• The Left has no real arguments, they just call names and attack, so they are easy to defeat.
• They hate us because they believe they can save the world and conservatives stand in their way. To give up their illusion, they would have to confront who they are, and with no deep faith, they cannot do that.
• The Republican Party has allowed the University System to become an arm of the DNC.
• The new way for the left to attack the right is through mental health screening. They are now screening children. See www.icspp.org and www.edwatch.org/updates/092704.htm.  
• The Left is more aggressive and organized, but only 10% of us can crush them because they are wrong.
• The Conservative Movement is only 40 years old where the Left has been active since the French Revolution. The tide is turning. Think positive, there used to be no Rush, no Hannity, no Fox News, etc.
• Get the politics out of the classroom first and foremost!

On this last point, David Horowitz pontificated at some length. His mission of late has been to fight the “ideological cleansing” on campuses and he proposes an “Academic Bill of Rights”. He has formed an organization working towards this end and you can learn more at www.studentsforacademicfreedom.org or by dialing 1-800-753-6562. In their mission statement booklet, they declare: “Students for Academic Freedom is a national coalition of independent campus groups dedicated to restoring academic freedom and educational values to America’s institutions of higher learning.” They are seeking new young conservative leaders on campuses nationwide to join in the effort. The four primary goals of Students for Academic Freedom are:

1)      To promote intellectual diversity on campus,

2)      To defend the right of students to be treated with respect by faculty and administrators, regardless of their political or religious beliefs,

3)      To promote fairness, civility and inclusion in student affairs, and

4)      To secure the adoption of the “Academic Bill of Rights”.

Just as Stalin’s purges (nice word for murdered, exiled, and sent into slavery), removed millions of those who stood in the way of Marxist totalitarianism in the USSR, American universities and campuses have been purged of conservatives, Christians, Patriots, and most all others who don’t buy into their collectivist naivety. Those who claim to be the icons of “diversity” and “tolerance” (liberals) are, in a rather Orwellian way, actually the most intolerant. One would have to be limited to MSM information sources not to know about this. The MSM are also full of leftists who support their leftist campus colleagues, so their abuses go largely unreported. It is far more appealing for reporters, columnists, and talking heads to spoon feed their mind control drivel to the sheeple than it is to simply report the truth. The truth does not support the positions of liberals, so why report it? How would that be “affecting social change”, their real mission?

The purges are not limited to colleges, universities, media outlets, and the entertainment industry. This Marxist pandemic is also very large in the public school systems across America and there is a “sister organization to Students For Academic Freedom called “Parents And Students for Academic Freedom” and more can be learned about this fine patriotic group at www.psaf.org or by calling 202-969-2467. It is time to pass a “Student Bill of Rights” at the public school level and immobilize these Marxists who are destroying the minds of our children and thusly “affecting social change”. Let’s TAKE BACK AMERICA from the enemies of Liberty.
