The US is not a democracy

Thank God the United States of America is not a democracy!  We are (or were) a democratic Constitutional Republic!  However, the more we ignore the Constitution, the closer we get to a democracy.  That is sound reason for concern whenever the Constitution is ignored.  Unfortunately, it is commonplace and happens more and more frequently without so much as a peep out of the people who have sworn an oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution.

We are paying, and we will continue to pay the price in one way or another.  The first question any legislator or elected official must ask is: "Is it Constitutional?"  More often, and to our detriment, the first question is: "How will this help me politically or how will this help my political party?"  and the question of whether or not it is Constitutional never enters the equation.

The oath of office has been converted to mean: "I swear to protect and defend my political position and my political party, so help me God."

Many may argue that they take their oath of office seriously; however, any time any elected official remains silent on the application of or the violation of the Constitution they no longer can defend their argument.

One may argue that: "It wasn't me! I would never condone that!" is fooling himself if he remains silent while others do violate the Constitution.  The silence only serves to protect himself from the scorn and political pressure from those who willingly violate the oath.

A "go along and get along" attitude when violations of the Constitution are concerned is not "protecting and defending"!

Please tell me if I'm wrong.  And please let me know if you need any examples (which are plentiful)!  The "slippery slope" is becoming steeper by the day.  With each passing year of "graduating" students, we are becoming more and more a democracy, and less and less a Constitutional Republic.

I'd love to hear your comments if you care!

Cheers!

JR
