THAT'S OUTSTANDING: Play ball!Bluegrass Institute for Public Policy Solutions(With sincerest apologies to Ernest L. Thayer, author of Casey at the Bat) The Florence Freedom baseball team lets out a mighty sigh: Revenues are down, debts are up and a shareholder is being investigated – By none other than the FBI. While the city wonders what to do and baseball fans will shout, There is no joy in Florence, their baseball team struck out. While immersed in seeming darkness, desolation and despair, One fan stepped forth with a bold idea: He’d take over the team’s affairs! Clint Brown has been a fan for life, he’s followed all the teams. He’s tired of Florence’s struggling club with their unpaid bills and awkward schemes. A successful entrepreneur, Clint knows the local town. He’s met with the mayor and commissioner; he’s a guy who gets around. When the team comes up for auction in December, Clint will step to the plate, He has plans for new promotions and a fan base he hopes to create. It’s his entrepreneurial spirit! It’s the heart of the American dream. He’ll take the risks and reap the rewards. Clint wants to buy the team. There’s no need for government subsidy, no tax increase to bear. The free market has an answer to baseball woes, there’s a buyer in the air. This spring in the north of the Bluegrass, the sun will be shining bright, The band will play a baseball tune and Florence’s hearts will be light. After that the men will laugh, and the little children shout. There’s no need to tax the citizens; free markets will win out!
