Christmas gift ideas from the Bluegrass Institute!

For those of you who haven't finished your Christmas shopping yet, the staff of the Bluegrass Institute would like to recommend these books for the liberty-loving friends and family on your list.

Plus, the Amazon.com affiliate program allows us to offer these books to you from our webpage. The Bluegrass Insitute receives a portion of every purchase. This will help us continue our efforts on behalf of liberty, freedom, and the well being of every Kentuckian for the coming year.

Thank you for a great year, and we all look forward to working with each and every one of you in the coming year!

President Chris Derry recommends:

The Mainspring of Human Progress by G. Henry Weaver

Written in 1947, this should be the book non-economics majors read for an understanding of why individual liberty and economic freedom have created the vast majority of the prosperity in the world. It is a history of the world that tracks the rise and fall of liberty and maps the corresponding buildup and fracture of civilizations. It is a great gift for junior high school students and up.

Reagan in his Own Hand  by Skinner, Anderson & Anderson

A chronology of President Reagan’s radio messages written and delivered in the late ‘70’s. He hand-wrote each speech on yellow legal pads, and they were then transcribed into a more readable form so he could read them easily on the air. Readers will be amazed at the depth of knowledge and understanding possessed by this one-man think-tank.

Director of Policy and Communications Jim Waters recomends:

Dependant on D.C.: The rise of federal control over the lives of ordinary Americans by Charlotte A. Twight

No Excuses: Closing the racial gap in learning by Abigail Thernstrom and Stephen Thernstrom

Fiscal Policy Analyst Aaron Morris recommends:

How Capitalism Saved America by Thomas DiLorenzo

This exceptional book by the author of The Real Lincoln examines the role of capitalism in America's history and clears up common economic misconceptions many people share. How did private property rights save the pilgrims lives? Did the New Deal help alleviate, or lengthen the Great Depression? Were the so-called "robber barons" of the 1900's really fleecing customers or were they great contributors to increasing standards of living?

Whats so great about America by Dinesh D'Souza

Economic policy intern Joel Peyton recommends:

More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding crime and gun control laws by John Lott

FDR's Folly: How Roosevelt and his New Deal Prolonged the Great Depression by Jim Powell
