Ohio Slips in Friendliness to Small Business  - Tax Increases Key Factor

Ohio has slipped in its friendliness to small business. According to the Small Business Survival Committee, Ohio now ranks 40 out of the 50 states plus the District of Columbia on a combination of issues ranging from taxes to government regulations.  Last year, Ohio was ranked 39th in the country.

Just a few of Committee's economic findings reflect the differences found among the states in the Small Business Survival Index.  From 1995 to 2002, population growth in the best 25 states was double the growth in the 25 worst states.  Almost two million people moved from the lowest 25 to the top 25 states on the list.  Personal income grew more slowly in states at the bottom of the list.

"This new data clearly demonstrates what Ohioans feel in their wallet each day," notes Libertarian State Chair Jason Hallmark, "Taxes are going up while personal income stagnates.  It's no wonder people leave."

"In Ohio, for example, we know that 6 people move to Florida every day, and it's not just the weather or retirement that attracts them," states Libertarian Executive Director Robert Butler, "Florida is ranked 5th in the country in economic friendliness."
