Will Loss Of Power Change Democrat Views? By Theresa Fritz Camoriano
For the sixty-plus years that Democrats have controlled a major part of the government, they have considered it to be the answer to all social problems and have gradually increased its scope, taking money and power away from the people and giving it to the government (themselves). In this way, they have used the government to force other people to comply with their priorities and goals, ignoring the many social problems that have been caused by excessive government meddling, and even using these additional problems as excuses for still more government programs. However, it now appears that the Democrats are out of power, possibly for an extended period of time. If somebody else has control of the reins of government power and is forcing Democrats to fund projects and comply with regulations with which they disagree, will Democrats begin to recognize government as the problem and begin to support a smaller, less intrusive government and to value individual liberty, or will they continue their blind faith in the use of government force as long as it is controlled by the “right” people?
For example, Democrats are complaining that the sex education textbooks in Texas now teach abstinence as the only form of birth control. As Republicans begin using government schools to indoctrinate children into their view of the world, with which Democrats strongly disagree, will Democrats then begin to support the separation of school and state, or will they continue to think that government indoctrination of children is the way to go, as long as the “right” people are doing the indoctrinating?
If the Republicans begin controlling our lives and businesses at the national level, will Democrats become born-again believers in states’ rights – wanting to shift the power closer to the people?
Will Democrats finally see the light and realize that excessive government power is the problem, so they will work to reduce the size and intrusive scope of government, or will they simply continue to have a blind faith in government as savior and continue fighting for control of the reins of power so they can again force other people to do things their way? Editor’s note: If we really are interested in bringing people together and healing rifts, then we’ll pay attention to the wisdom of Walter Williams. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=41380 And if we understand the importance of the rule of law, we will pay attention to Thomas Sowell’s three-part article about Arlen Specter.
