The Culture War Has Begun.

By Justin Darr

The reelection of President Bush has sent the Democratic Party reeling.  How could a President with so many perceived negatives win with such relative ease?  The economy is not fantastic, the War in Iraq is not universally popular, health care costs and fuel prices are rising, President Bush smirks and stutters, and the Redskins lost!  Why is John Kerry not President today?  Additionally, why, in a supposedly ideologically divided electorate, have Republicans defied political convention and steadily increased their majorities at both the Federal and State levels?  The truth is undeniable.  Americans are beginning to no longer vote in line with individual candidates’ positions on specific issues, but in accordance to their cultural and moral values.

Neither Presidential candidate made cultural values a major issue in the campaign.  In fact, Bush made concerted efforts to downplay the same sex marriage and abortion issues, going so far as to give an eleventh hour endorsement of civil unions.  Other than a few light weight questions at the debates, the selection of up to four Supreme Court Justices received no attention at all.  It is no surprise that Republican and Democrat politicos alike are puzzled by exit poll results that showed concerns for cultural values on a par with the Wars in Iraq and terrorism and healthcare.  The American people have taken talk of “family values” out of the arena of the sound bite and placed it front and center as the major issue of the day. The Culture War has begun.

Until now, the Liberal plan to warp America into its version of a European welfare state has advanced unimpeded.  Political correctness has become a cultural norm, the forced indoctrination and dumbing down of our school children has become educational dogma, and an oligarchic activist judiciary has usurped the role of the legislature and systematically declared unconstitutional nearly every aspect of traditional American life.  As the Liberal elites delighted in their cleverness at redefining the celebration of dysfunction as “tolerance” and suppression of Freedom of Speech as “fairness”, frustrated Americans turned to the only resource left to them, the ballot box.

This was not supposed to happen.  The electorate was supposed to base its decisions on the 1000 dead soldiers in Iraq and $2 a gallon gas, not the Left’s 30 year history of duplicity.  Now, the true face of liberalism is being exposed.  Instead of accepting the loss and looking ahead to the next election, liberals have launched into a psychotic paroxysm of rage and insults unseen in American politics since the aftermath of the Civil War.  Major Liberal authors have labeled the voters of “red” states as “ignorant”, “stupid”, and “backward” for doing nothing more than disagreeing with them.  American citizens were not voting to protect their right to send a little girl to kindergarten to say grace over a cookie and not be suspended for “violating the separation of church and state”, but in words from the “Berkley Planet”, “the right to yell ‘faggot’ out of their pickups.”  There are no words that can properly describe the depths of arrogance, intolerance, insularity and anti-Americanism this widespread response represents.

This is but the opening salvo in the liberals’ counter attack against the expressed will of the electorate.  Most contemporary liberals began their political careers in their college days back in the 1960’s.  In the ensuing decades, these liberals have successfully pushed their agenda in the expectation that they would pass the staff of their ever so coveted political power to a prefabricated second generation of indoctrinated proto-socialists to continue their work.  The 21st Century was to be a new beginning and end.  The end of the America the Left hates so badly because of their inability to socialize within it, and the beginning of the godless, valueless, immoral culture they crave.  Instead, they see their life long efforts failing.

The election has shown the Left they are not as successful as they had thought.  Traditional American values, morals, and ethics have somehow survived all their stratagems far longer than they anticipated, and their biological clocks are ticking.  There is no second generation of Socialists because Americans have clung to their pesky habit of making up their own minds and raising their children as they see fit. Now, liberals must try to complete all their goals in the 10 to 15 years they have remaining as an active political force.  Americans have seen nothing like what is about to come.  Consider that all of the outrageous actions of the Left to date have been when they have perceived they are winning the Culture War, and you will understand there will be no limit to the ferocity, deception, and hatred the Left will use in order to achieve their final victory.

Despite post election talk of bipartisanship, there will be none in Washington for the foreseeable future.  The leftists who hijacked the Democratic Party in 1968 are realizing their core ideas, not specific policies, were rejected by the American voters.  There will be no compromise from the Left because any concession would require they abandon their most fundamental beliefs.  In order to cooperate, the left would first have to admit that they might be wrong in a few areas and the rest of America might have a few good points to offer.  If one thing is certain about Liberals, it is that they are far too arrogant to do this.  And, even if they were willing to engage in a constructive dialogue, starting it off by calling your opponents a bunch of racist, illiterate, moonshine drinking morons who lack indoor plumbing is hardly the way to do it.  Instead, the Democrats will increase their attempts to undermine our way of life, more aggressively pursue their agenda through the Courts, obstruct needed legislation, and personally attack anyone who has the audacity to stand in their way.

The Culture War is no longer an idea, but a reality.  For the sake of America’s future, it is a battle we must win.
