I think you have hit the nail on the head with your article on “Two Kinds of freedom?” http://www.jeffersonreview.com/articles/2004/101804/twokinds.htm  I believe what you wrote is a very accurate description of what we are experiencing today, and which is dragging us relentlessly down a slippery slope toward being no better than a third world country where individuals’ rights have been superceded by state rights “for the good of society”.  Pity that this leads to socialism and the lowering of everybody’s standard of living to the lowest common denominator (everyone has insurance but nobody has good medical care, everybody has to go to school, but nobody receives good education, everyone is banned from owning weapons, but nobody is safe, everyone must pay a minimum wage, but unemployment is rampant).

If more people could be enlightened to see what you are describing in your article, and we amended our ways, the USA could once again be the leading and prosperous country the world once new and admired!
