Forum to be held at IUS Oct. 21
The IUS Civil Liberties Union will be holding a forum titled “American Power and Global Security: Due Process in a Post 9-11 World” Oct. 21 from 7:30-9:00 p.m. in the Hoosier East room located in the University Center. Likely topics include the following: status of enemy combatants/Guantanamo Bay; immigration; prisoners’ rights; and the implementation of the Patriot Act as relates to due process. Panelists include Fran Quigley of the Indiana Civil Liberties Union, Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson and Dan Owens, an attorney specializing in immigration. Additional panelists to be announced. The public is invited and encouraged to participate. “Our goal is provide a forum for the community to discuss issues effecting our most basic freedoms as Americans,” IUSCLU President Jennifer Shore said. “Panels are made up of individuals representing diverse views on the issues. The intent is not to promote a particular viewpoint, but the discussion of varying perspectives.” The IUSCLU is an active student group committed to promoting community awareness of issues affecting civil liberties and protecting civil liberties on campus.
