Badnarik to Appear on Ohio Ballot Libertarians have new name, "The Other Party"
Libertarian Presidential candidate Michael Badnarik will appear on Ohio's ballot this November. Badnarik will be listed as an "other party" candidate. Over 6,000 petition signatures have been certified in 88 Ohio counties.
Badnarik's platform calls for the elimination of the IRS, a restoration of America's gun rights, and more affordable health care. "Excess regulation and government spending destroy jobs and increase unemployment and health care costs," states Badnarik.
Ohio Libertarians lost a court case last week that would have returned their right to be recognized by Secretary of State Ken Blackwell as a political party.
"It's a case of the Emperor's new clothes," comments Libertarian State Director Robert Butler, "We have 12 Libertarian public officials in Ohio. We have signatures from 88 counties. We collected over 57,000 signatures last year. But the Secretary of State refuses to acknowledge that we exist as a political party."
"We're happy to have our Presidential candidate on the ballot, " declares State Chair Jason Hallmark, "but we'd be even happier if he were listed as a Libertarian."
"This designation as 'the other party' is pure political theater," notes Butler, "but we're willing to play along. Maybe we'll change our name. Then we wouldn't have to get so many signatures."
