The best kept secret these
days is where Congress expects to get all of the money it appropriates to
pay for things it says the people themselves could not afford to pay for.

"In Biblical days it was considered a miracle for an ass to speak; now it would be a miracle if one kept quiet." – a Missouri Newspaper Florida Price Gouging, Russian Tragedy, Reducing Corporate Welfare By Theresa Fritz Camoriano 1. Florida Price Gouging – As Florida residents were preparing for the latest hurricane, they went on a shopping spree, buying plywood, bleach, batteries, and other products that would be needed in an emergency. In many cases, people bought far more than they needed, which meant that others who came behind them were out of luck. For example, a newspaper article quoted a woman who said she went to the store and bought 15 bags of ice. She said she didn’t really need the ice, but she got it “just in case”. This probably means that another woman, who really did need the ice, was not able to get it and, as a result, lost all the food in her freezer. Other people filled the gas tanks of all their cars with gas, leaving spare cars with full tanks of gas in their garages as they evacuated. Again, this probably meant that other people, who needed the gas in order to evacuate, were unable to get it. I saw a couple of upstanding busy bodies on the news the other night who want to be sure that the citizens of Louisville have a voice against adult entertainment. It seems to me that there is already a voice and its called supply and demand. (click to read more) Clubbed A succession story in Virginia. by John J. Miller When Republican congressman Ed Schrock of Virginia announced on Monday that he would not seek reelection, the GOP didn’t merely lose a House member with a solidly conservative voting record — it nearly wound up with a tax-and-spend replacement. Meanwhile, I've heard a whole lot of people demand their fair share of fair treatment. This strikes me as eminently reasonable and, well, fair. The problem that's been blatantly brought home to me lately, however, is that those demanding fair treatment are somehow deeply offended and even angered when that same fair treatment is given to others. The Emperor and the Potted Plant
Once there
was an emperor in the Far East who was growing old Silence Dogood, No. 3 (The third of Benjamin Franklin’s Silence Dogood letters) To the author of the New England Courant. SIR, It is undoubtedly the Duty of all Persons to serve the Country they live in, according to their Abilities; yet I sincerely acknowledge, that I have hitherto been very deficient in this Particular; whether it was for want of Will or Opportunity, I will not at present stand to determine: Let it suffice, that I now take up a Resolution, to do for the future all that lies in my Way for the Service of my Countrymen. During a recent interview, Prime Minister Tony Blair of Great
Britain was quoted giving the following answer to one of his parliament
members as to why he believes so much in America and its President. And
does he think they are on the right track?

"Freedom is indivisible -- there is no 's' on the end of it. You can erode freedom, diminish it, but you cannot divide it and choose to keep 'some freedoms' while giving up others." --Ronald Reagan "Kerry will not release his medical records. Kerry will not release his military records. Kerry will not release records of the investigation conducted about his anti-war, anti-American activities, and Kerry will not release his IRS records which would show the source of his wealth, suggested as enormous. In short, Kerry will not produce any real evidence about his true character. He is suggesting, I suppose, that we should take his word for it. Or perhaps we should just guess. If Judge Judy heard Kerry's flimsy case, not only would she throw it out, she probably would fine Senator Kerry fifty dollars for annoying the court and wasting its precious time. In view of the absence of any real evidence, I think voters must assume Senator John Kerry's true character is highly questionable." --Gary Aldrich
