Hoosiers can vote
for mother for Lt. Gov, her son for U.S. President
Libertarian Presidential candidate Michael Badnarik came home to Indiana to
introduce the Libertarian lieutenant governor candidate - his mother, Elaine
Badnarik.
"Indiana will be in strong hands with my mother as lieutenant
governor," said Michael Badnarik, who is from Hammond and attended Indiana
University.
"Elaine Badnarik has been an incredible activist in Hammond," said Kenn Gividen,
Libertarian candidate for governor. "She will stand up for Indiana voters, just
as she has fearlessly and tirelessly stood up for her neighbors when government
failed."
Elaine Badnarik was an Indiana
delegate at the Libertarian National Convention in Atlanta, and she spoke on
behalf of her son during the nominating speeches. Her transparent love for her
family and her country impassioned the audience. It also inspired Gividen to
invite her to join the ticket.
She said she agreed because new property-tax assessments have hit Lake County
property owners particularly hard, and she wanted to do something productive to
change it.
"We have been in our house for 48 years. I don't want to be taxed out of it,"
Elaine Badnarik said. "Instead of wringing my hands, I decided to clean house -
the Statehouse."
Elaine Badnarik will bring her real-world experience as an executive
administrative assistant and as a local activist to the lieutenant governor
post.
This is the first time Indiana voters will have a mother-son choice
for the No. 2 state office and the No. 1 national office, and it
seems to be a first nationwide.
Elaine Badnarik said it's becoming a family joke that she got her
best political experience at home.
"We fed three boys with the appetite of nine on one income. We
learned to prioritize. We did what we could afford. We worked with a lot of
ingenuity," she said. "It's about time we did that in
government."
