“We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we may always be free."
--President Ronald Reagan, Normandy, France, June 6, 1984 Reagan, Education, Propaganda, and the U.S. Postal Service By Theresa Fritz Camoriano Reagan – With the passing of President Reagan, it is time to be reminded that we owe him a great debt of gratitude for what he did for the United States and the world. Reagan took us from an economy with high unemployment and high inflation to one of low inflation and high productivity, and he took us from being afraid of annihilation by the Soviet Union to the disappearance of Soviet communism – not bad for a dumb actor! The truth is that, despite being portrayed by the press as a bumblehead, Reagan was extremely intelligent, knowledgeable about the world and economics, and was courageous enough to do what he knew was right. I cannot think of another politician who would have walked away from the arms talks in Iceland with Gorbachev, having been offered a huge reduction in nuclear arms, as Reagan did. All officeholders – from the governor in Frankfort to constables in the farthest reaches of the Commonwealth – must renounce … dueling! (click to read more) Class Warfare Over Obesity Donna Walker Mancini, RD. M.Ed It had to happen sooner or later. The "main stream" Press would introduce class warfare into the rampant obesity problem and proclaim that only the rich can be thin because eating " right" is too expensive.( Courier- Journal "Dieters lose more than Weight"- Trendy meal plans mean more cost" June 1-2004) (click to read more) On Voting, and Other Fetishes by Claude Bohn Voting, along with egalitarianism (which, as Murray Rothbard once pointed out, is a “revolt against nature”), is the sine qua non of democracy. In most, if not all, of the so-called democratic nations, it has been raised to the level of a high holy fetish! So much so, I’m afraid, that, even the overwhelming majority, of the “superfluous” minority, who clearly recognize, and oppose, the inherent evils associated with democracy, remain convinced, nonetheless, that the evils of democracy can, somehow, be overcome through the democratic process! Perhaps this is the best indicator of his Chuchillian stature; for like Reagan, Churchill was so maligned, and like Churchill, Reagan saved the world. Their message said, ‘Our ways surpass yours. Our God is better than yours. It's an I'm-getting-married-and-need-a-new-place-to-live thing. More on that in a later column. What's important to note is that, while in Pa. over the weekend, I sat down to watch Saturday Night Live on Philadelphia's NBC 10. It was a rerun, actually. The host was Ben Affleck. It had its moments. Nothing spectacular. But the point is, while watching, I saw a commercial for Pennsylvania's "Click It or Ticket" seatbelt enforcement program. During the Training session there was a presentation by three speakers representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths, who explained each of their belief systems. I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say. The Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam, complete with a video. Ron Paul, MD In recent days administration officials have warned the nation about possible terrorist attacks, subjecting us once again to color-coded threat charts and puzzling admonitions to go about our lives as usual. The message is clear: grave danger surrounds us, but ordinary citizens should do nothing and trust the government to take care of it. That's why I was able, as I unpacked my household goods, to watch much of the ongoing OJ Simpson circus as it was broadcast live on cable TV news channels. I saw the so-called slow motion chase; I saw the footage of Simpson attending his ex-wife's, and the bitter public statements from her family. And even once I was working again, news concerning the pending trial - and then the trial itself - was so pervasive I was still saturated with information about it no matter when I chose to watch the news or on which channel. "Families must continue to be the foundation of our nation. Families -- not government programs -- are the best way to make sure our children are properly nurtured, our elderly are cared for, our cultural and spiritual heritages are perpetuated, our laws are observed and our values are preserved. Thus it is imperative that our government's programs, actions, officials and social welfare institutions never be allowed to jeopardize the family. We fear the government may be powerful enough to destroy our families; we know that it is not powerful enough to replace them.” – Ronald Reagan
