“We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we may always be free."
--President Ronald Reagan, Normandy, France, June 6, 1984 Light Rail, Condi Rice By Theresa Fritz Camoriano 1. Light Rail – Is it possible that the proposed light rail project for Louisville really is dead? Let’s hope so! As compared with bus service, light rail is vastly more expensive, slower, and much more dangerous. It is also completely inflexible, in that routes cannot be changed to suit the changing needs of the consuming public, whereas bus routes can readily be changed. The only attraction of light rail is the “free” federal money to build it, which, of course, is not really free. Given all the practical drawbacks of light rail, its substantial disadvantages compared with the alternatives, and the ongoing maintenance costs that would not supported by “free federal money”, we should be very thankful this proposed project is dead. Let’s drive a stake through its heart so it doesn’t ever come back to life! (click to read more) Who’s to Blame? By Claude Bohn On a recent Sunday (5/23/04) morning net surfing session, I came across a rather thought-provoking article, in the Courier-Journal. It was headlined: “Who’s to blame? 9/11: We all are.” (click to read more) Will Southern Baptists Abandon Public Schools? If Well-known SBC Leader T.C. Let me explain: I wear New Balance sneakers. But not the good kind of New Balance sneakers (i.e., the kind well-known for their comfort). No. I used to wear the good kind. Now I wear the crappy kind. Factory rejects. I bought 'em at a discount department store. (click to read more)
Who has a right to your property? By Henry Lamb In response to a recent column, a reader asked: I couldn't tell how you view land ownership in terms of property right. Is the earth the birthright of all, with title to parts of it to be determined by payment to the community of its annual rental value, or does the purchase of a parcel by one person from another satisfy the right of all other people to enjoy the earth? "Families must continue to be the foundation of our nation. Families -- not government programs -- are the best way to make sure our children are properly nurtured, our elderly are cared for, our cultural and spiritual heritages are perpetuated, our laws are observed and our values are preserved. Thus it is imperative that our government's programs, actions, officials and social welfare institutions never be allowed to jeopardize the family. We fear the government may be powerful enough to destroy our families; we know that it is not powerful enough to replace them.” – Ronald Reagan

"And now today we find ourselves involved in another struggle... It is the oldest struggle of human kind, as old as man himself. This is a simple struggle between those of us who believe that man has the dignity and sacred right and the ability to choose and shape his own destiny and those who do not so believe. This irreconcilable conflict is between those who believe in the sanctity of individual freedom and those who believe in the supremacy of the state." --Ronald Reagan “Government is instituted to protect property of every sort; as well that which lies in the various rights of individuals, as that which the term particularly expresses. This being the end of government, that alone is a just government which impartially secures to every man whatever is his own.”-- James Madison
