“It is amazing how many people seem to think that the government exists to turn their prejudices into laws.”

– Thomas Sowell

Kentucky Should Take Proven Path For Educating Minorities and Low Income Children      By Theresa Fritz Camoriano         Everyone claims to want to do a better job of educating children, but the job still is not being done well on a large scale.  The Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA) resulted in a dramatic increase in taxes being spent on education, but, unfortunately, it has not been successful in improving the lives of Kentucky students.  In Jefferson County schools, after 14 years of KERA, 58% of African American fourth graders still read below grade level and 45% of all fourth graders still read below grade level.  Clearly, Kentucky taxpayers are not getting their money’s worth, and Kentucky’s children are not being prepared for successful lives.            (click to read more)

Questions       By Pat Pending          How can it be that John Kerry, who already has enough delegates for the nomination, and whose opponents have dropped out of the race, has managed to win only 60% of the vote in Kentucky’s Democratic primary?  What message was being sent by Kentucky’s Democrats?            (click to read more)

An Open Letter to Louisville’s Metro Council        From Terry Gray         Somewhere along the line, some of you have forgotten what your job in metro council is.  You were elected to represent the people of your district and the community.  Smoking bans are not wanted, and enacting such legislation will make a mockery of your jobs and of our way of government.  Let me remind you that we are a representative government.            (click to read more)

Did FL Judge trash constitution in Terri Schiavo case?         by John William Kurowski         On May 6th, 2004, Judge W. Douglas Baird ruled Terri’s Law is unconstitutional. Baird wrote in his decision that Terri’s Law:

“is unconstitutional on its face because it is an unconstitutional delegation of legislative power to the Governor and because it unjustifiably authorizes the Governor to summarily deprive Florida citizens of their constitutional right to privacy. In both instances, these are pure question of law that require no evidentiary support under any conceivable circumstance.”             (click to read more)

"Families must continue to be the foundation of our nation.  Families -- not government programs -- are the best way to make sure our children are properly nurtured, our elderly are cared for, our cultural and spiritual heritages are perpetuated, our laws are observed and our values are preserved.  Thus it is imperative that our government's programs, actions, officials and social welfare institutions never be allowed to jeopardize the family. We fear the government may be powerful enough to destroy our families; we know that it is not powerful enough to replace them.”

– Ronald Reagan

"The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny
commence.  If 'Thou shalt not covet' and 'Thou shalt not steal'
were not commandments of Heaven, they must be made inviolable
precepts in every society before it can be civilized or made
free." --John Adams

Free State Project

"What we need is a 'separation of government and education' president."
- Talk show host Neal Boortz, 5/5/04

"The elements of our strength are many.  They include our democratic government, our economic system, our great natural resources.  But, the basic source of our strength is spiritual. We believe in the dignity of man." --Jeane Kirkpatrick
