MAKE A WISH

NO BIG LOSS
"Well, the second consecutive leader of the terrorist group Hamas has been
dispatched to the great desert sand nap by the Israeli military. Abdel Aziz
Rantisi, along with two of his bodyguards, bought the farm on Saturday after
missiles were fired at his car. No big loss. It should come as no surprise that
Hamas is keeping the identity of their new leader a secret. It should also not
come as a surprise to learn that Israel already knows the name of the new Hamas
leader, and has posted it in newspapers."

"As with before, there is an important lesson here for the United States in the
war on terror. The only effective response to Islamic terrorism is to destroy
the terrorists, plain and simple. These people see negotiations as a sign of

than anybody. They don't care as much about what the world thinks as they do
about the security of their people. Their priority is to find the terrorists and

snookered by the North Koreans, coddling Yasser Arafat or his many other
missteps."

KERRY REGURGITATES CLINTON DOCTRINE...
"Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry said yesterday that he will
treat the war on terror 'primarily' as law-enforcement action even as he pledged
to remain committed to Iraq and to personally plead for international help in
policing and rebuilding that nation. . . . Marc Racicot, chairman of President
Bush's re-election campaign, said Mr. Kerry's formula won't work. 'Serving
terrorists with legal papers will not win this war. This is a pre-9/11 attitude
that turns a blind eye to the threats that face our country,' he said."

"Jamie Gorelick should step down from the commission at once. If she fails to do
so on her own, her fellow commissioners should ask her to step aside. Her role
as architect of a policy that hampered federal agents in tracking down suspected
terrorists makes her unfit to pass judgment on the alleged failures of others."

MAKING CRIMINALS' DAY
"(Kansas) Gov. Kathleen Sebelius vetoed a bill yesterday to allow Kansans to
carry concealed handguns, saying the measure would have made law-enforcement
officers' jobs more difficult," reported the Associated Press on Saturday. BS.
The Sebelius veto won't make cops' jobs tougher...but it will make the crooks'
jobs easier. Serves Kansas voters right for electing her.
NUGENT NUKE'S 'EM
"Gun-control advocates are 'against freedom' and not carrying a weapon is
'irresponsible,' rock guitarist Ted Nugent said yesterday at the National Rifle
Association's convention here. 'Everyone who will be raped, murdered and
carjacked in America will have one thing in common - they were unarmed,' Mr.
Nugent told the Harrisburg Patriot-News. . . . Mr. Nugent described the position
of gun-control advocates as 'weird' and said: 'They're against freedom.' Asked
what he would say if he could say one thing to the protesters, Mr. Nugent told
the newspaper: 'I'd say, 'Drive safely.' ... They're retarded.' "

TEACHERS ON THE MARCH
According to the Washington Times, the National Education Association is
co-sponsoring the March for Freedom of Choice in Washington on Sunday. Now, who
in the world would ever have thought they'd see the day when the teachers union
would be rallying in support of a parent's right to choose which school to send
their kids to, public, private or home?
Yeah, in your dreams. See, it's not SCHOOL choice that teachers will be
marching for this weekend, but the choice to terminate a pregnancy. Nice to see
all that union dues going to a good cause which benefits "the children." Well,
except for those who "choose" not to be born.
ILLEGALS LOSE ONE
"A bill backed by (Florida) Gov. Jeb Bush that would have allowed illegal
immigrants to obtain driver's licenses has been abandoned by its sponsor after
law enforcement officials raised security concerns."

LET'S HERE IT FOR DISCRIMINATION!
Big Ruby's, a Florida hotel catering to the gay community in Key West,
reportedly turned away three heterosexual couples recently because of their
sexual orientation. And while a lot of folks are liable to deplore this action,
we defend it. Frankly, we'd prefer that no hotel discriminate for any reason,
but the right of a private proprietor to make such decisions should be
constitutionally protected.
GOVERNATOR ON A ROLL
"California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today will fulfill yet another campaign
promise when he signs a bill to reform the state's costly workers compensation
program. The signing will mark the fourth major victory for the former
action-movie star since he became governor barely five months ago.
"...Since taking office, Mr. Schwarzenegger has rolled back Democratic
predecessor Gray Davis' increase in the state's car tax, won approval for a cap
on state spending and pushed through an initiative to keep taxes from
skyrocketing by rolling much of the state's debt into huge bond issues."

THEY DON'T CALL IT THE BOOB TUBE FOR NOTHING
"In a study of 2,600 children ages 1 to 3, researchers found that the more
television the little people watch the more likely they are to suffer from
attention-span deficit by the age of 7. They have trouble concentrating or
paying attention to a toy or a doll for very long. . . . This radical theory -
and it's only a theory - is that fast-paced visual images can alter normal brain
development.
"...Five years ago, the American Academy of Pediatrics warned parents that
allowing children under 2 to watch television could adversely affect brain
growth and social, emotional and cognitive skills. Many families have ignored
the challenge. Children between 1 and 3 watch an average of two to three hours
of television a day. Nearly one-third of all children have a television set in
their bedrooms."

OK, here's the low-down on that "killer" job opportunity I mentioned over the
weekend. I stopped by to see my old friend John Nienstedt on my trip to
California. He's looking for someone to join his established, yet growing
survey research firm. Here are the details John gave me.

Competitive Edge Research & Communication (CERC) - where we've been collecting,
analyzing and reporting on public opinion since 1987 - seeks a talented Research
Analyst for work in San Diego beginning immediately. As the firm's name
implies, we provide our clients with custom-designed, accurate and timely public
opinion research (political, public policy and civic).
This position requires close work with the principal and directors of a
close-knit firm on survey research projects. Core responsibilities include:
* Data analysis
* Performing statistical tests using multiple and logistic regression, factor
and other analyses
* Writing reports
* Contributing value-added benefit to clients
* Acquiring new research business (responding to RFPs, etc.)
Secondary responsibilities may include processing raw data for analysis, chart
production and creating client presentations. Other responsibilities may be
determined by the Director of Research.
Qualified candidates will:
* Possess excellent professional (not technical) writing skills
* Possess, at minimum, a bachelor's degree in a social science
* Have at least one year of work experience in survey research and an
understanding of the statistics and methods employed (political campaign,
marketing and public policy experience are helpful)
* Be keenly analytic and inquisitive and enjoy working on political and public
policy issues
* Be detail-oriented while handling multiple projects
* Be capable with SPSS (or demonstrate the ability to master it) and Microsoft
Word or WordPerfect
* Possess high professional standards and ethics
* Spanish a plus
Salary: $35,000 to $70,000+ with healthcare and pension plans. CERC is an equal
