Another Dirty Campaign J.V. Mitchell
I think the pattern for the coming presidential election is quite clear. The hearings on the 9-11 event were supposed to be an information gathering event, to help prevent an opportunity for a future attack. In actuality, they have turned out to be a highly partisan campaign attack. Is anyone surprised? It looks like the current election will be one of the more dirty ones in recent years.
Mr. BenVeniste, one of the most partisan and arrogant men in Washington, did not even try to elicit information from Dr. Rice, but tried to bully her in order make the Bush administration look bad. Unfortunately for BenVeniste, Dr. Rice was just too intelligent for him. When he asked a 10 point question, she insisted in answering it fully, in spite of his repeated efforts to shut her up. She told the committee things which Ben Veniste apparently didn't want them, or the American people to hear.
When BenVeniste grew tired of trying to intimidate Dr. Rice, Ms. Gorelick took over. Alas, try as she might, she just couldn't look intelligent. Or ask intelligent questions. In fact, Gorelick was a part of the problem, when she worked in the Clinton / Reno justice department. She apparently was not too interested in tight security, then.
True to form, the 6 O'Clock news spun the report of the hearings, to make BenVeniste look reasonable and Rice uncooperative.
While watching the hearing, it occurred to me that the Democrat party must be desperate to gain some traction on the election campaign. The "main stream press" will certainly do its part to help them. With a candidate like Senator Kerry, they will need all the help they can get.
Or, will Kerry actually be the Democrat candidate?
