"FitzGerald called the cuts "a shell game" and said he's not convinced LG&E will agree to permanently give up pollution allowances for nitrogen oxide reductions at the plant."
FitzGerald and the writer (Jim Bruggers) fail to mention the "shell game" that has been going on for far too long. That is the "pollution credit" shell game that has been the driving force behind the VET. Pollution credits generated from the VET have been used to off set other sources of pollution for years, such as the airport expansion and other industrial polluters. The overstated benefits of VET being applied to justify other pollution sources means that the citizens of Jefferson County and Jefferson County's air quality have never benefited from the VET. By ending the VET and thus ending the "shell game" the citizens of Jefferson County can now look forward to better air quality.
Although "pollution credits" are a key element to the air quality issue, the Courier Journal still neglects to explain pollution credits to their readers. What a shame, what a sham!
