RICE KRISPIES
How ironic that it was the Bush-whackers who were DEMANDING that National
Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice appear before the 9-11 Commission and answer
questions...and who then spent most of their time once she got in front of them
trying to cut her off so she couldn't answer their questions. What a circus.
And Bob Kerry turned out to be the biggest clown of them all, referring to Rice
on a number of occasions as "Dr. Clarke," before Condi had to point out that she
looks nothing at all like Richard Clarke. But Kerry sure looked like Bozo.
FROM TEDDY'S LIPS TO TERRORISTS' EARS
"Earlier this week (Sen. Ted) Kennedy was saying that Iraq was going to be
George Bush's Vietnam. Today that pudgy little radical Islamic 'cleric' Muqtada
al-Sadr was saying the same thing. This stuff is priceless folks. Kennedy
launches a broadside against Bush, and the people who are trying to kill our
soldiers in Iraq parrot it the next day.
"...By the way .. in case I haven't had a chance to say this today; Kennedy is a
vile, repugnant slug who, when he moves around the Senate floor, leaves a sticky
trail behind him ... somewhat like a slug. And I'm being kind here. Golly ...
I'm having such a hard time expressing how I really feel today."

MILE HIGH FOOT-DRAGGING
"The federal government is stalling the process to arm airline pilots, according
to lawmakers pushing new legislation to jump-start the program created in 2002.
. . . Only 2 percent of 100,000 eligible pilots have been trained to carry guns.
They are then forced to carry the weapons in a lockbox, unless they are behind a
locked cabin door, and are forbidden from carrying weapons on international
flights - rules pilots have said undermine the program."

FRANKEN-FLOP
"It probably doesn't bode well for a purportedly enjoyable radio show when its
most entertaining segment is one featuring Al Gore. But that was the case on
the maiden voyage of 'The O'Franken Factor,' the much-ballyhooed liberal
talk-radio show, hosted by Al Franken, which, along with the much-ballyhooed
liberal talk-radio network Air America, debuted on (March 31). . . . If this
doesn't sound like great radio, that's because it isn't."
- Columnist Jason Zengerle
ANNUAL OINK-OINKER HITS THE SHELVES
"Congress spent $22.9 billion on unauthorized and often frivolous projects
earmarked in appropriations bills this year, according to a study by Citizens
Against Government Waste. The spending hawks introduced their 12th annual 'Pig
Book' yesterday, which details the 630 most egregious 'pork barrel' projects
approved by Congress."
- Washington Times, 4/8/04
CUT THEIR PAY & SEND 'EM HOME
"California lawmakers should work part time so they can be more productive and
less likely to write 'strange bills,' Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says. 'I want
to make the Legislature a part-time Legislature,' he told the Los Angeles Times
on Tuesday while vacationing in Hawaii. 'Spending so much time in Sacramento,
without anything to do, then out of that comes strange bills.' . . . Democratic
lawmakers criticized Mr. Schwarzenegger's comments."
- Greg Pierce's "Inside Politics," 4/8/04
WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?
A state's DEMOCRAT Party puts out an urgent action alert to its supporters
asking that they contact their elected legislators and urge them to vote AGAINST
a tax increase plan crafted by its REPUBLICAN governor? Is this the Twilight
Zone or what? Nope...Kentucky. Here's the action alert from the Kentucky
Democrat Party...
"URGENT ACTION REQUIRED!!!! Call your legislators today and tommorrow (sic) and
tell them you want them to vote against House Bill 395 with the Governor's tax
increase. Remember that Gov. Fletcher promised not to raise taxes, and while he
calls his plan 'revenue neutral,' it raises taxes on middle class
families-clearly a flip-flop from his campaign promise. Call 800/372-7181 TODAY
and ask for the message line and relay this VERY important message!!"
SELLING OUT FOR 30 PIECES OF SILVER
Just months after voting for Oregon Democrat Gov. Ted Kulongoski's tax hike last
year (since repealed by the voters), at least two of the turncoat Republicans
who voted with him landed cushy, high-paying state jobs in Kulongoski's
administration.
Fast forward to today and the late, great state of Virginia. Their Democrat
governor is also pushing a HUGE tax hike which he absolutely can't get without
some turncoat GOP votes in the legislature. Which is why Americans for Tax
Reform has sent a letter to Virginia Republicans asking "for a public promise
that no future paycheck is sweetening the appeal of hiking taxes on
Virginians." This one's about to get ugly folks.
THEY SHOT HORSE-THIEVES, DIDN'T THEY?
"A 26-year-old Los Angeles man who prosecutors say shot at two thieves stealing
his car, killing one of them, was charged on Wednesday with murder. Yoon Ho
Song could face 50 years to life in prison if he is convicted of the first
degree murder of Mario Sandoval Martinez and a special allegation of using a
handgun, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office
said.
"Prosecutors say Song came out of his house to find two car thieves pushing his
customized Honda out of his driveway in the predawn hours on Monday and opened
fire, hitting Martinez, 25, in the back. The second suspect got away. 'The fact
that your car is being stolen isn't a legal justification for killing somebody,'
Deputy District Attorney Frank Somes said."

READING IS FUNDAMENTAL
* Ted Kennedy lost his cool on Wednesday when asked at a press conference about
his involvement in spiking a judicial nomination until after a controversial
affirmative action case had been heard. Read all about it at:
http://washingtontimes.com/national/20040408-124243-6112r.htm
* When Sen. Trent Lott (R) had a few kind words for former segregationist Sen.
Strom Thurmond, the left demanded his head on a platter. But when Sen. Chris
Dodd (D) uttered some similar gushing praise for former KKK chieftain Sen.
Robert Byrd...barely a peep from anyone. Go figure. Read more at:
http://washingtontimes.com/national/20040408-122244-5534r.htm
* That old "Bill 602P" hoax about taxing the internet has some folks suspicious
about ALL reports on efforts to tax the internet. But a 9th Circus Court ruling
last week is a REAL threat to the cost of future broadband communications. Grab
your wallet and check it out here:

TABOR TALES
Point of clarification: Kay Daley advises that she is a media consultant for
Vernon Robinson's congressional campaign in NC-5. Her husband Jack does not
work *for* the campaign as a paid staffer, but *on* it as an unpaid volunteer
advisor. That is precisely what I said in yesterday's News & Views, but
Robinson's opponent Nathan Tabor apparently doesn't understand the difference
between "working for" and "working on." What a doofus.
