Discover the Secret to Ronald Reagan's Amazing Legacy and The Truth Behind His
White House
Most would believe that Ronald Reagan's enormously popular policies and lasting
legacies stemmed from his innate ability to lead and govern. However, the truth
behind Reagan's success is now revealed in "The Hand of Providence: The Strong
And Quiet Faith of Ronald Reagan" (Available Now, 0785260536, $24.99, WND
Books).
>From Reagan's own words and writings plus first-hand interviews with
>his family, friends, and co-workers, this new book reveals how the
>President's faith molded his entire ideology and thus his impact on the
>world. With never-before-revealed facts such as Reagan's belief that
>divine intervention not only positioned him as the leader of the free
>world but preserved his life after the assassination attempt, "The Hand
>of Providence" paints an intimate portrait of Ronald Reagan's most
>important attribute: his enduring faith.

1. Two Cents: Under-Oath Clarke vs. Book-Selling Clarke
Here's an interesting comparison.
What did the under-oath-before-the-9/11-Commission-former-counterterrorism-czar
Richard Clarke think about the possible prevention of September 11 compared to
the
60-Minutes-with-Lesley-Stahl-book-promoting-vengeful-former-administration-official
Richard Clarke?
When testifying before 9/11 Commission on Wednesday, March 24, Richard Clarke
admitted to the world that none of his recommendations would have produced the
"remotest chance" of preventing the terrorist attacks of September 11.
>From the transcript of the 9/11 Commission hearing:
FORMER SEN. SLADE GORTON (R.-WASH.): Assuming that the recommendations that you
made on January 25th of 2001, based on Delenda, based on Blue Sky, including aid
to the Northern Alliance, which had been an agenda item at this point for two
and a half years without any action, assuming that there had been more Predator
reconnaissance missions, assuming that that had all been adopted say on January
26th, year 2001, is there the remotest chance that it would have prevented 9/11?
CLARKE: No.
GORTON: It just would have allowed our response, after 9/11, to be perhaps a
little bit faster?
CLARKE: Well, the response would have begun before 9/11.
GORTON: Yes, but there was no recommendation, on your part or anyone else's
part, that we declare war and attempt to invade Afghanistan prior to 9/11?
CLARKE: That's right.
But Clarke was singing an entirely different tune when he was being interviewed
by Lesley Stahl on CBS' "60 Minutes" on Sunday, March 21. In fact, his answer to
Stahl has been used as the centerpiece of a MoveOn.org Bush-is-a-Failure ad,
complete with audio sound bites from the interview.
LESLEY STAHL: The president's new campaign ads highlight his handling of 9/11.
He's making it the centerpiece of his bid for re-election. You're writing this
book in the middle of this campaign. The timing, I'm sure, you will be
questioned about and criticized for. Why are you doing it now?
CLARKE: Well, I'm sure I'll be criticized for lots of things, and I'm sure
they'll launch their dogs on me. But frankly, I find it outrageous that the
president is running for re-election on the grounds that he's done such great
things about terrorism. He ignored it. He ignored terrorism for months when
maybe we could have done something to stop 9/11. Maybe. We'll never know.
So, which is it, Mr. Clarke? Could Bush have "maybe" prevented September 11? Or,
as you admitted under oath, was there not even the "remotest chance" that such
prevention was possible, even if all of your recommendations had been
implemented?

2. Headlines and Highlights from HUMAN EVENTS ONLINE:
"RECLAIMING KID KILLERS"
The photos are horrific. The most recent show children in Fallujah, Iraq dancing
gleefully while teenagers tear at the immolated bodies of four murdered American
aid workers.
In another set, circulated last week by the Associated Press, 16-year old Hussam
Abdo, a Palestinian youth, is shown at an Israeli military checkpoint in Nablus.
The youth's hands are atop his head. Around his torso is a vest containing 18
pounds of high-powered explosives. The child isn't simply transporting the bomb,
he is the bomb. Young Abdo is the fourth Palestinian child rigged with
explosives to be detected by Israeli soldiers and police in the past week. The
youngest was just 11.
How do we fight this jihadist terror? Here's what actor Gary Sinise is doing:

"TOOMEY GAINS ON SPECTER IN PENNSYLVANIA PRIMARY"
Conservative Rep. Pat Toomey (R.-Pa.) is closing the gap against liberal
incumbent Sen. Arlen Specter (R.-Pa.) in his bid to unseat Specter in
Pennsylvania's April 27 Republican U.S. Senate primary.
Toomey remains the underdog. But a series of polls have placed him at least
within striking distance as the campaign enters its final three weeks.
As Toomey's campaign gains credibility in polling and fundraising, conservatives
nationwide are hoping his campaign will be a show of conservative strength
within the Republican Party.
Will conservatives pass this test? http://www.HumanEventsOnline.com/article.php?id=3470
"MEXICAN OFFICIALS NABBED FOR ALIEN SMUGGLING"
On March 23 the Mexican government announced it had arrested 44 people --
including 32 current and former officials of Mexico's immigration authority and
10 current and former border policemen -- for alleged involvement in smuggling
aliens into the United States.
High-ranking Mexican officials said the crackdown netted the largest number of
Mexican government employees arrested so far for alien smuggling.
Will this round of arrests affect Bush's plan to allow the unlimited importation
of guest workers? http://www.HumanEventsOnline.com/article.php?id=3477
"EVEN MORE LEFT-WING THUGGERY"
There is a guerrilla group on the loose in this country. But you wouldn't know
it from the liberal media, which portrays the group's members as harmless
activists with good hearts.
The group is called "National People's Action." The Washington Post described
NPA this week as a "coalition of neighborhood advocacy groups based in Chicago."
A more accurate description is left-wing goon squad. This nationwide
organization is made up of professional grievance-mongers from the Bronx, N.Y.,
to Santa Monica, Calif. They warn: "We are black, we are white, we are Latino,
we are Asian. We are old, we are young, and we are in your neighborhood!!!!!"
By the way, you're paying for their lawlessness: http://www.HumanEventsOnline.com/article.php?id=3455

3. Jihad Watch: Anti-Christian Jihad Continues
The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) has published an ad in several
California newspapers to promote peace between Christians and Muslims. "Like
Christians," it says, "Muslims respect and revere Jesus. Islam teaches that
Jesus is one of the greatest of God's prophets and messengers to humankind. Like
Christians, every day, over 1.3 billion Muslims strive to live by his teachings
of love, peace, and forgiveness. Those teachings, which have become universal
values, remind us that all of us, Christians, Muslims, Jews, and all others have
more in common than we think."
Diminishing prejudice and building bridges is important, but not under false
pretenses. CAIR would do more to promote peace by confronting and repudiating
the roots of Muslim hostility toward Christians. It could start by denouncing
some recent incidents of Muslim persecution of Christians around the world.

6. Political Roundup
EVANS & NOVAK: "President Bush, under a wave of criticism for job loss overseas
due to free trade -- 'outsourcing' or 'offshoring' as it is called these days --
has stood his ground. Bush and his deputies fired back and called the
administration's critics 'economic isolationists.' In simultaneous comments
Tuesday, Bush and United States Trade Representative Robert Zoellick both used
the 'economic isolationists' phrase to describe those who would use subsidies or
tariffs to prevent U.S. companies from turning to cheap overseas labor as a way
to save costs. In recent months, offshoring has become a poignant political
issue, more because of the press than because of any of Bush's political rivals.
The talk of a 'jobless recovery,' has opened the door for Democrats to malign
corporations who are now faring better without any benefits trickling down to
many unemployed workers. Some Democrats and many in the media have turned to
offshoring as the explanation -- businesses are getting rich by exploiting cheap
overseas labor to increase profit margins while the regular American family
suffers. The measures Kerry would push would likely fall short of actual trade
barriers. The Senate, for example, this month passed a bill blocking federal
government contracts from going to companies that would carry out the work with
foreign labor. Kerry, on the campaign trail, has said he would remove any
special tax treatment for companies engaging in offshoring labor. Protectionist
talk is generally fairly resonant with voters; however, no protectionist
candidate has been elected President since before the Great Depression." http://www.HumanEventsOnline.com/article.php?id=3474
POLITICS 2004: One of John Gizzi's Short Takes this week is "Rowland's Rove"
Heads West -- As Connecticut's Republican Gov. John Rowland continues to be
investigated by the state legislature for possible impeachment over whether he
accepted illegal gratuities, the governor's closest and most durable political
associate left the Nutmeg State for Nebraska. Dave Boomer helped the young
Rowland win his first race for Congress in 1984 and was his press secretary
during his House tenure (1984-90). Like Lyn Nofziger with Ronald Reagan, Boomer
was in and out of major staff spots with Rowland in his gubernatorial campaigns
and his record ten years in the statehouse. Most recently, he was working at
state Republican headquarters in Hartford to help develop defensive strategy for
the embattled Rowland. Now, the political gunslinger known as Rowland's Rove has
just moved to Omaha to manage the fourth term campaign of conservative
Republican Rep. Lee Terry. http://www.HumanEventsOnline.com/article.php?id=3472

7. From PAGE 3: The Two Faces of Richard Clarke
In the two weeks since the release of his book, Against All Enemies -- Inside
America's War on Terror, former National Security Council aide Richard Clarke
has labored in the liberal media to portray the Bush Administration as doing
nothing to deal with the threat posed by al Qaeda in the period between Bush's
Jan. 20, 2001, inauguration and the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Touting his book in an interview with CBS's "60 Minutes" on March 21, Clarke
said that Bush had "ignored" the terrorist threat. In an interview with MSNBC's
"Hardball" on March 31, he said the only thing Bush did about it was to ask --
passingly -- in May 2001 for a "strategy" for dealing with al Qaeda.
But in an August 2002 White House background briefing for reporters Clarke said
that in March 2001, two months after coming into office, Bush changed President
Clinton's policy on al Qaeda. Whereas Clinton had called for rolling back al
Qaeda, Bush called for "eliminating" the terrorist group.

And Finally. . .
This is one of the worst weekends of the year.
Why?
I will lose an hour of sleep (as if you won't). I'll probably be extra mean on
Monday and all of next week. Of course, I'm a conservative, so you probably
wouldn't be able to tell anyway, right?
Later,
