Bernie Kunkle on two-party politics:

In his 1966 book Tragedy and Hope,  Professor Carroll Quigley offered some very revealing thoughts about politics.  This change agent wrote: "The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea."  Quigley further proclaims: "Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can 'throw the rascals out' at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy."
When the people grow weary of one of the Establishment parties, writes Quigley, "they should be able to replace it, every four years if necessary, by the other party, which ... will still pursue, with new vigor, approximately the same basic policies."
Considering the Medicare Bill,  No Child Left Behind Education Bill, the increased spending in Washington, etc., all passed since President Bush was elected, Quigley's book pretty much sums things up at the national level, 'eh ???
