Veto the VET news On Tuesday March 9th, the House Natural Resources and Environment Protection committee passed SJR3 after Senator Roeding, Rep Marcotte and Larry Brown of VETO the VET spoke in favor of it's passage. The resolution will seek to confirm the unconstitutionality of the Envirotest contract and also directs the Natural Resources and Environment Protection cabinet to submit a revised State Implementation Plan (SIP) allowing for emission testing to end. Although SJR 3 is not entirely what is desired, an end to testing outright, it is a start. Veto the VET will be pushing for additional language that if the contract is unconstitutional, it should be voided and testing stopped immediately until such time as a new one is renegotiated. Plus, further proposed language changes may include safeguarding additional counties, businesses and highway funds from unproven EPA tests, regulations and mandates which may be announced April 15 of this year. Larry Brown stated he "finds it hard to believe that constitutionally swore elected officials would consider continued operation under an illegal contract." Mr. Brown also made a plead that more "phone calls are needed to get a House vote and recommended calling House Speaker Jody Richards, Larry Clark, Rocky Adkins and our own local house leader Jim Callahan to ask that SJR 3 be heard by calling 1-800-372-7181 (legislative message line). We have an opportunity to stop testing and continue to clean the air, but voters must act now". He wanted to thank those who have called because it is the ringing phones that have gotten us this close.
Sincerely for Clean
Air,
