Dear friends,

Ever wonder what it's like to be on the road campaigning
for President? Here's Libertarian Presidential candidate
Gary Nolan sharing a day on the campaign trail. Please
feel free to forward this to friends, family, and fellow freedom-fighters.

Wednesday, February 18, 2004

6:00 am (CST): the alarm goes off, kicking off another 18-
hour day of campaigning. I start the day in a hotel in
Houston, Texas - it will end at another hotel in
Jacksonville, Florida.

6:40 am: the day's first campaign event - a radio
appearance (by phone) on Central Florida Morning News w/
Jim Turner; WDBO in Orlando, FL. I discuss the campaign and
promote a local appearance tonight in Orlando.

6:50 am: Erica and I have just over an hour to grab
breakfast and get ready to head over to the University of
Houston for several campaign appearances this morning.

8:00 am: I discuss the Wisconsin primary and my campaign
for 15 minutes with host Harry Davis on WDKM, a station in
Central/South Wisconsin.

8:35 am: Another radio interview - 20 minutes with Tyler
Morrison, host of The Talk of Missouri on KSIM/KMAL.

9:00 am: The first of three presentations at the University
of Houston, organized by Monica Granger, president of the
UH Libertarians. I speak to about 150 students studying the
US & Texas constitution & politics - they are clearly
engaged and ask some great questions.

10:00 am: I'm a little nervous about the second
presentation - I'll be speaking to over 200 students
studying Macro and Microeconomic principles. These students
know a lot more about economics than most non-Libertarian
audiences, and I'm anticipating some tough questions.
However, this turns out to be the best class of the day -
it turns out that every thing I say reinforces what they've
been learning in class.

11:00 am: This is the largest class - about 400 students
studying U.S. Government, Congress, the Presidency, and the
Courts. It's also the shortest - I only have about 20
minutes instead of the usual 50. The time goes quickly, the
reaction is great, and we can use the extra time to get to
the airport for our flights.

12:00 noon: We turn in our rental car, take the shuttle to
the terminal, check our bags, and wait in line to go
through security. [now a regular occurrence S's on the
ticket] We finally make it through, and even have time to
sit down for lunch.

1:30 pm: Our flight to Orlando takes off. Time to adjust my
watch from Central to Eastern time.

4:48 pm (EST): We touch down in Orlando. A few minutes
after I get off the plane, the phone rings. It's Jenny
Price from Associated Press, calling to interview me about
the Wisconsin primary and the campaign.

5:15 pm: I go to the Budget rental car counter and am told
they don't have any cars available. I call my campaign
manager, Steve Dasbach, back at the office. He goes online
and is able to reserve a car - with Budget! I return to
the counter, confirmation number in hand, and get a car.
Actually, they didn't have the type of car we reserved, so
they upgrade us for free.

6:55 pm: We get to the location of the local LP meeting I'm
supposed to speak at - only to discover that the business
has moved. We later learn that the party's website needs to
updated - it still lists the old location. Fortunately, the
new location is in Winter Park Florida, which is nearby.

7:15 am: We arrive at the event just as Michael Badnarik is
starting to speak. He finishes up and it's my turn. The
reaction from the crowd is great, lots of people sign up
for the campaign email list, and several indicate they will
be attending the national convention and voting for me on
the first ballot.

8:10 pm: I step away from the event to do a 20 minute radio
interview with Bob Moore, host of Queery, on WORT in
Madison, WI. The topic is Gay Marriage, which I had
addressed earlier that day in my campaign blog. I'm now
posting new entries to my blog every weekday, which our new
media person, Audrey Mullen, distributes nationally.

Since Audrey came on board last week, the number of media
interviews scheduled each day has exploded. I've done five
today, which is typical. If this pace continues, we should
easily do more media interviews than any previous
Libertarian Presidential campaign. And from everything I've
been told, we can expect the pace to accelerate over the
next three months, and explode after the national
nominating convention in May.

That assumes, of course, that we're able to keep Audrey
working full time on the campaign. She's a media
professional, owner of her own firm, Advocacy Ink. Unlike
much of our campaign staff, she can't afford to do this as
a volunteer.

I hope that when Libertarians see the amount of media she's
generating for my campaign, they'll provide the financial
support we need to keep her working for us full time.

9:00 pm: We hit the road toward Jacksonville, where I'll be
addressing 1500 high school students tomorrow afternoon.
Young people are the future of the Libertarian Party and I
really feel like I'm making an impact every time I have the
opportunity to speak to them.

11:30 pm: We check into the hotel and get ready for bed.

Midnight: Lights out. Tomorrow's first interview is at
7:40am. ===========================================================

Gary is an incredible campaigner for the Libertarian Party
and the cause of freedom. He left his home in Cleveland on
February 6 and won't be back until March 2. He'll be
spending most of the day March 3 with a PBS documentary
crew, then it's back on the campaign trail March 4.

As Gary mentioned in his campaign diary, Audrey Mullen,
president of Advocacy Ink, has been working full-time for
us the past two weeks generating media interviews and
coverage for Gary's campaign. Gary's now doing several
radio interviews a day on stations all across the country,
and interest in his campaign seems to be growing steadily.

Your donations, especially on Amazon.com, made it possible
for us to hire Audrey and her efforts are really paying
off. But we need your continued support to keep her working
full time for Gary's campaign, so she can keep Gary busy
from sunrise to sunset reaching Americans with his
positive, Libertarian message.

The best way to help is to go to Amazon.com and make a
contribution of $5 - $200. Your donation will not only help
us keep Audrey working full-time arranging radio, TV, and
newspaper interviews for Gary - it will also help Gary
catch up with John Edwards at Amazon and move back into
second place behind John Kerry. Here's the link to the
Presidential candidate donation page: http://www.amazon.com/gp/misc/flag.html/ref=gw_pres_cand_63392/

Just scroll down and click on the link by Gary's picture.

If you've already donated $200 via Amazon, you can make
your contribution online at our website: http://www.GaryNolan.com

Or, you can mail your contribution with the form below to:

Gary is working 18-hour days to deliver the Libertarian
message to America. Please help him reach as many people as
possible through earned media. Please make a generous
contribution today. Thank you.

Steve Dasbach
Campaign Manager

P.S. As Gary mentioned, he's now updating his campaign blog
every weekday, so Audrey can distribute his comment to the
national media and generate interviews. She's also
scheduling interviews with local media in advance of
campaign appearances and pitching producers on having Gary
on as a guest.

Virtually every time Gary appears on a local radio show in
advance of an appearance, anywhere from 6 - 12 people show
up just from hearing Gary -- people attending their first
ever Libertarian event. As we said over a year ago, this is
going to be the most successful Libertarian Presidential
outreach campaign ever. Your support is making it happen.
Thank you!
