"We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office." --Aesop Has The Morality Pendulum Swung To Its Limit? – Janet Jackson Ruckus, Mel Gibson Movie, Gov’t Spending By Theresa Fritz Camoriano The big fuss that occurred due to Janet Jackson’s performance at the halftime of the Superbowl suggests that Americans may finally have had enough. We are very tolerant people, but most of us don’t think our families should be exposed to bared breasts and simulated sex on stage at the halftime of a football game. When regular folks finally flex their wallets and refuse to buy products from the people who sponsor this stuff, then we will begin to see a real change. I hope we will be able to look back on the Janet Jackson incident as the point where the pendulum began to swing back, and ordinary Americans began to demand moral decency – not by making indecency illegal but by refusing to support indecency with their own money. In the first system, government is the absolute authority and grants (or denies) rights and freedoms to the people. Throughout history, most people have lived under some variation of this system of governance. (click to read more) What Freedom Is Left After Campaign Finance Reform? By Theresa Fritz Camoriano We all know that politicians are selling favors and privileges. The question is what, if anything, should be done about it. The McCain-Feingold campaign finance law attempts to limit the ability to sell favors by restricting our free speech rights. The recent U.S. Supreme Court case of Federal Election Commission v. McConnell upheld that law. On February 14, the Northern Kentucky Law Review of the Salmon P. Chase College of Law presented a symposium on the subject. It was actually pretty nice out that day. Blue skies. Puffy white clouds like you see in cartoons. A departure from recent chill winds. And there we were, cruising along in said colleague's car -- one of three total, going east or west -- when my buddy slammed his brakes at the sight of a squad car parked on a grassy knoll. An assortment of curse words ran through our heads just then -- some starting with "F," others "S," as it were. The cop pulled off the median and into the lane behind us, following us to a red light at what felt like a legal speed. Like many of you, I am just shocked on how common sense gets lost in the bureaucracy of Washington. Unfortunately, this lack of common sense has ramifications that extend all the way to Missouri. This month, I am going to be chairing a hearing in the Sixth District about the Endangered Species Act. (click to read more) "The average age of the worlds

“We should view our government the way we would a friendly, cuddly lion. Just because he’s friendly and cuddly shouldn’t blind us to the fact that he’s still got teeth and claws.” – Walter Williams
"Our out-of-control budget also erodes personal freedom. When government
grows, as Thomas Jefferson once famously put it,
“The ordaining
of laws in favor of one part of the nation, to the prejudice and
oppression of another, is certainly the most erroneous and mistaken
policy. ... These measures never fail to create great and violent
jealousies and animosities between the people favored and the people
oppressed;
