Murphy for Congress Daily Blog (KY-04) February 20, 2004
Just Whose Side is Geoff Davis on?
Just as Davis tried to tout his support from the business community in a hastily call press conference on Thursday, it was revealed that during the last campaign he took $10,000 from the Teamsters Union and $1,000 from the American Maritime Officers, AFL-CIO PAC.
Yes. The same Teamsters Union that opposes the Bush tax cuts, the Bush economic plan, and the Bush Trade Policy...the same Teamsters Union that would like to ignite a Trade War with our European Partners to whom we export billions of dollars in goods annually...the same Teamsters Union that wants Congress to raise your taxes.
Yes. The same Union that just endorsed John Kerry and declared that their highest priority in 2004 is ending the Bush Presidency.
The Truth. Davis received the Teamsters money after promising to oppose key portions of the Bush Economic Plan, and no amount of spin is going to change the fact that he has crawled in bed with the enemy. Little wonder that Bush refused to come to the 4th district in 2002 to campaign for Davis, even though he was in the neighborhood three times during the Fall of 2002.
Said Kevin Murphy, when called by the Cincinnati Post. “Politicians who take thousands of dollars from the Teamsters and the AFL-CIO are not pro-business.”
Davis’ pro-union, anti-Bush agenda will no doubt surprise some of those who “endorsed” Davis on Thursday. Even more surprised were some who were included on the list of endorsees...
...Makers Mark CEO Bill Samuels, included on the list that Davis handed out at the press conference, said he does not support Davis and would be voting for his opponent in the race for Congress.
