Public education fails – Charley Reese I think public education is so messed up, it needs to be abolished. I would be willing to pay school taxes into a fund that would provide scholarships to private schools for all of the children whose parents can't afford it. If we abolished the monopoly of public schools, the private sector would provide the educational resources, especially if there was a pool of public money with which to pay the tuition. http://reese.king-online.com/Reese_20031222/index.php
Taking capitalism’s benefits for granted – Larry Elder - Some, however, like the "radical socialist" shopper -- and my neighbor's cat, Moonie -- seem oblivious to the comfort, freedom and abundance that flow from America's historically unparalleled opportunities. At least Moonie, however, in an occasional display of affection, will from time to time rub against my leg in appreciation. http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3430 About Economics – Thomas Sowell – [W]e cannot opt out of economic issues. Every citizen and every official they elect has an affect on the economy. Our only options are to be informed or uninformed when making our choices in the economy or in the voting booth. http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3427

Obscene profits – Thomas Sowell-- Economically illiterate people -- which, unfortunately includes much of the intelligentsia -- have never understood the role of profit as an incentive to keep costs down. …To the economically illiterate, if some company makes a million dollars in profit, this means that their products cost a million dollars more than they would have cost without profits. It never occurs to such people that these products might cost several million dollars more to produce if they were produced by enterprises operating without the incentives to be efficient created by the prospect of profits. …Recent estimates are that it costs $800 million per new drug. That is why drug prices are so high. But needless suffering and premature deaths are even higher costs. http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3426 Obscene non-profits – Thomas Sowell "Never speak to me of profit," India's legendary leader Pandit Nehru once said to that country's leading industrialist. "It's a dirty word." Policies based on that attitude cost millions of Indians a better life for decades, by stifling India's businesses. http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3428 The Road To Wealth – by Walter Williams When we see wealthy nations, what else do we see? One tendency is greater personal liberty that includes greater protection and respect for both the person and his property. ...Little is older than the notion that some people know what's best and they've been ordained to forcibly impose that "wisdom" on others. It's a notion accounting for most human misery. …It's a notion in vogue with America's liberal elite. They differ only in degree, but not in kind, from global tyrants who show little reluctance to forcibly impose their will on others. If you think I'm wrong, consider what would happen to anyone who declared that he is an emancipated adult and fully capable of tending to his own retirement needs. http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3268 A Tale of Two Crypts – Daniel Pipes In miniature, this tale points to the profound morality of the American-led invasion, symbolized by the fact that, since April 2003, innocent Iraqis move about freely above ground while Saddam and his henchmen slip from one rats hole to another. http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3415 Court Leaves The Door Open For Safety System Wiretaps The technology involved, used by OnStar, ATX and others, combines a global positioning satellite transmitter with a cellular telephone. Drivers can use the services to seek information and emergency help. …The phone has a speaker and microphone, and it turns out that the microphone may be activated surreptitiously, allowing government agents to listen in on conversations in the car. http://www.nytimes.com/2003/12/21/automobiles/21SNOOP.html?ex=1073283996&ei=
