Mario on smoking bans:
I chose to make my business a smoke-free environment eleven years ago
because that is the right of any private business owner, including restaurant
and bar owners. I am insulted by the "whiner crowd", a loud and connected
minority that wants to force businesses to become smoke-free because the
whiner crowd says so.
Tally Ho, a local landmark and restaurant, recently sent a letter to the Dave
Baker show informing the public that Tally Ho is now a smoke-free business
and the owners did that on their own, because they can. Unfortunately, the
author of the letter did not recognize the Liberty that allows he or she to make
that decision because the letter also stated that they cannot wait for the smoke
free ordinance to take effect. It is unfortunate that this business owner does
not appreciate the ability to make a free decision on their own and prefer an
overbearing government that would make that decision for them. Too bad, they
lost me as a customer with that statement forever.
You people won't be happy until big brother runs every aspect of our lives and
is coercively over-funded by stolen tax dollars. I see a future where people
cannot engage in any legal private activity that a certain crowd of whiners
considers to be bad, insulting, unhealthy, too costly, not all-inclusive, not
exemplary of diversity, or otherwise not the way the whiners would do it. Why
don't we just give the government our paychecks and ask them to give us food,
clothing, shelter, and what luxuries they determine we deserve?
I feel sorry for you people, because you have no idea what freedom is and you
are willing to give it up for a little perceived security, just like the Jews in
WWII
who were led to slaughter like sheep. The most unfortunate part of all this is
the simple fact that you won't recognize when Liberty is destroyed, because
you have no concept of what it really is. You don't recognize this gift from God
right in your midst.
Benjamin Franklin said, and I agree, "Those who give up Liberty for the sake
of security deserve neither Liberty nor security." This was a man who knew
what real Liberty was. We need a Ben Franklin at the helm of Leftington today
for we are quickly becoming a mini-californialike village of idiots.
Do I have a solution to all of this debate? Yes, I have said from the beginning
that a compromise would be to have an ordinance that requires a proper
ventilation system in all restaurants and bars that allow smoking, that being
99% of them. These ventilation systems are not so costly as to be cost pro-
hibitive and would move the air better and with more volume to exhaust the
cigarette smoke from the interior of the building. Since you people enjoy
spending taxpayer money, why not give a tax credit to those businesses
that voluntarily comply.
Being a non-smoker, I have been asking for the businesses I frequent to do
this for years but I do not want an overbearing government beauracracy to
wave the fist of big brother thereby removing the freedom of these businesses
to decide on their own if they allow smoking or not.
This is wrong and un-American.
Yours in Liberty endowed by the Creator,
Saved by Jesus Christ, and
Preserved by the American Veteran,
