This letter was rec’d from a reader, and it was commenting on Donna Mancini’s letter about economic development I agree with the statement that too much regulation, control, and government in general are not good for economic development. Nearly all of the economic development seminars that I have attended list the ease of doing business as more important than incentives! We here in Boone County are often complimented by new and existing companies about how easy it is to do business here. They are usually referring to our local government, not state when making these comments. One of the reasons is that our industrial areas are not in cities and they have just one local government to deal with. We also have the lowest property tax rate in the Greater Cincinnati region (primarily because we have lowered it three times by a total of 15% since taking office in January of 1999). Even if they are in one of our cities, our countywide building inspection and permitting as well as other services have allowed us to increase efficiencies and help to get government out of the way of private enterprise and prosperity. Time is money and we expedite the process as much as possible. Of course we are always looking for better ways to do business. I enjoy being copied on these e-mails; it keeps me on my toes!
