Patton Fills Seats on Boards – and Bernie Kunkel is not happy about it http://www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky/news/7305801.htm They’re Not Kidding – AL FRANKEN CALLS KARL ROVE "human filth," Ari Fleischer a "chimp," and John Ashcroft "something of a nutcase." Michael Moore calls President Bush a "nitwit" and (in the voice of God, no less) a "devil." Molly Ivins manages to insult millions at once when she approvingly quotes William Brann's crack that "the trouble with our Texas Baptists is that we do not hold them under water long enough." Mean-spirited, you say? No, it's all in good fun, the authors say. http://worldmag.com/world/issue/11-22-03/cultural_3.asp New Medicare law a prescription for disaster http://capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3333 Letters about medical care – Thomas Sowell http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3332 Thanksgiving: An American Celebration of the Creation of Wealth http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3279

How the judiciary effectively repealed the 10th amendment – Thomas Sowell Judges got so clever back in the 1940s that even a man who grew food for himself in his own backyard was said to be engaged in interstate commerce -- and therefore subject to the power of Congress. http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3336

What businessmen should learn from homeschoolers: A Lesson from CBS’s assault on the mind - By claiming that child abuse is a “dark secret” of homeschooling, the program linked all those who educate their children at home with abusers, implied some sort of conspiracy among homeschoolers, and equated freedom with death. …There was a blatant attempt to link homeschooling with death, in the minds of viewers—as businessmen are now linked with crime….The key point is that homeschoolers refused to remain “compliant.” They reacted with forthright indignation to an assault on their independence. …This has forced them to actually deal with the homeschoolers, not merely to smear them with impunity. …The CBS attacks on homeschooling, as on business, reveal the same basic motives: hatred of independence and freedom, and the promotion of socialization and government regulation. http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3310

Almighty government, please bless us and take care of us http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3341 UVA interviews Ken Jones – author of Index of Leading Catholic Indicators This Kenneth C. Jones wrote a very informative article that I just read in The Latin Mass Magazine (Fall 2003 Vol. 12, no. 4). Sounds like his book is a powerful indictment of the destruction of Vatican II. He uses objective and cold hard facts. No subjective "feelings" about the situation. Bernie – From the article: There were 49,000 seminarians in 1965. By 2002 the number had plunged to 4,700 - a 90 percent decrease….It is not being an alarmist to say that within our lifetime, there will be virtually no nuns in the United States - a stunning turn of events since 1965….At the grade school level, there were 10,503 parochial schools in 1965 and 6,623 in 2002. The number of students went from 4.5 million to 1.9 million. http://www.unavoce.org/articles/2003/interview_with_ken_jones.htm
