Smoking Bans and Private Property Rights

By Donna Mancini

I have attended all four health dept hearings as well as the two metro council hearings. I have listened by the hours to testimony of the proponents of the smoke free
Louisville ordinance.

Regardless of what the smoke free Louisville proponents say about health, they are missing the real issue, which is private property rights, individual freedom and personal responsibility !! As I said in my run for Mayor, Government should perform legitimate government tasks, do them well, and stop trying to micro-manage our personal lives. In less than one year of Metro Government, we are considering destroying our respect for individuals and their private property rights, under the guise of " health". You may as well burn the Constitution in front of City Hall !

From a practical standpoint, how will we enforce this ban on smoking?
We will need a system of reporting the "crime".  Should  we call 911 or dial direct to police headquarters?  They (the police) better hurry, and make a high speed run..... as it only takes a few minutes to smoke a cigarette and then the evidence will be "up in smoke". As a taxpayer, I think this is a disgraceful waste and misuse of law enforcement.

Of course, maybe there is no real intent to enforce the law, if it passes. The goal may merely be to pacify the anti- smoking crowd. This will of course get a few conscientious, law abiding people to obey, and the rest can go on their merry way. What about the health of the bar or restaurant owner , who will surely develop high- blood pressure and heart disease due to the stress of having no control over his OWN business?

Freedom is Truly Good for your health !!
