A Modern Day Nursery Rhyme
By Thomas J.
Crane
Sally: Oh where,
oh where did my little car go?
They
took it away, that's all I know.
Chorus: Poor
Little Sally, you don't know?
It
failed the Emissions Test and had to go.
Sally: New
battery and tires and fenders too.
How
could it fail when it looked so new?
Chorus: It does
not matter to the people on high.
They
declared your car a polluter and it had to die.
Sally: How could
they be so mean and cruel?
Who are
these people who think I'm a fool?
Chorus:
Politicians and bureaucrats and lobbyists too.
As
long as they make money they could care less
for
you.
Sally: But I
thought the environment was the reason they
gave.
Plus
the lives of the people they were trying to save.
Chorus: Pardon
our laughing, but that's not their game.
While they make millions, you suffer the blame.
Sally: Then I am
a victim of greed and spite.
As a
United States Citizen, that ain't right.
Chorus: Ho, ho,
it's off to the bank we go.
While we drive in limos and travel afar,
Poor
Little Sally has no car.
