Disco Your Way To
Health
By Donna Mancini
(Disco Donna)
There Is much talk
today about the State of the Nation’s Health. More than half of the American
People are considered obese, by objective standards, such as weight, and Body
Mass Index, with an alarming number of children falling into this category.
Many Americans smoke, regardless of the proven health hazards associated
with this activity. Modern Man’s most prevalent health problems, such as
high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes , strokes, cancer, and just about
everything that AILS us is a result of what we put in our mouth, and how much
we move around !! This is common knowledge nowadays, but the vast majority
appear to go on their merry way, eating enough food for an entire family, and
using as little energy as absolutely necessary to change the channel, search
the web, or get into their car!
Many people lose sleep over the fact that they cannot afford the rising costs
of Health care and Insurance. Other people are busy trying to figure out how
to blame the food industry, for their unhealthy physical condition.
The situation is truly sad............ ( This article is beginning to sound
like a downer, when my intention was to BE UPBEAT and Inspire HOPE )
OK here we go again.........
Want to have FUN? Want to be HEALTHY ? Want to EAT MORE and WEIGH LESS ?
Try DISCO TREADMILL.
Running or walking on a treadmill is simple, cheap and FUN! I would say it
is BETTER than sex, but that would probably be offensive to the male readers
out there,(my wonderful husband Richard in particular)!
Personally, I run to disco music because of the BEAT!!! I LOVE DISCO! Can
you imagine a person with an e-mail address , DISCO4FREEDOM, loving disco?
I even have a cat named DISCO, and at one time had a nutrition consulting
business called “Donna the Disco Dietitian".
I am telling you this because I want you to know how serious and how much
passion I feel for Disco Music....... It truly makes me feel alive and motivated
to exercise and run on my treadmill.
Like many other things in my life, I got my treadmill by " accident. " My
father had purchased it used, from a guy at the post office named " Potter", who
bought it and did not use it himself. Of course my father did not use it after
he bought it, and it was taking up space in our small home office, where he had
it sitting between the file cabinets and the mini flag display !
As a favor to my mother, and the costumers, I asked my dad if I could have
it and take it home. Of course he gave it to me, his eldest daughter who was
named after his "dear" Mother. I took it home and did not use it, UNTIL the
big winter snow of 1993?.......
I will never forget, the first time I got on the thing. Cabin fever had set in
and I had energy stored in me to last a lifetime ! I was ready to try it. The
cat would have to move, as she was sleeping on it at the time.
I stated her up and started walking. I turned on the stereo. I soon
realized that the BEAT of the music determined my speed and enthusiasm. GO,
DONNA, GO!!!!
I was having a BLAST! I did not feel the desire to go out dancing at "
Studabakers" anymore.......
I was the DISCO Queen of my own Castle !! OK , I am getting carried away a
little, but I’m a politician, and I’m supposed to brag and exaggerate the
truth.......
Anyway, That was 8 or more years ago, and I have gone from 3mph to almost 7,
and I seldom miss a day of my routine . I LOVE IT ! My morning treadmill
run is my time to think and reflect and keep my aging 52 year old body
looking like it is 25 ( oops, there I go, behaving like a politician again)
!!
The moral of the story is, BUY a Treadmill if you don’t already have one, and
USE it if you do have one.
Personal Responsibility really is FUN!!!!
