TERRY’S TIDBITS

By Terry Gray

BABY STUFF

I just saw a news story about a Kentucky law that allows a parent to turn in a baby.  I don’t think that’s right.  We know that babies can’t defend themselves.  I think it’s unfair to turn babies in without proof that the baby has done something wrong.

POWER

We, the American people have a bunch of power but too many holdouts kill the momentum.  The government relies on flags, words, and the sentiment of patriotism to produce and maintain holdouts.  The government’s social programs ensure holdouts.

“Whatever is he talking about Marge?”  If we as a mass of people said, “We’ve had it.  We are not paying these taxes anymore,” what do you think the government would do?  What could they do?  Are they going to jail all of us?  Would they put liens on all of our properties?  Would they place the whole country under martial law?  Okay, what if they did?  What then?

Well, you can’t pay troops when you don’t have any money.  There goes the martial law.  You can’t sell a property to collect a debt if no one is buying it.  You sure can’t put all of us in jail, there isn’t enough room and who is going to pay the jailers and keep the lights on?  It’s the holdouts that ruin it for us.  They hold out because of fear and intimidation by the government.  And would it be so bad if the government went broke?

Now for you Liberals that would be aghast at the idea of not giving your money to the government for them to redistribute you can still claim 20 dependents on your W-4. Then pay the taxes due in April.  The money that would normally be taken from your check you could deposit in an interest bearing account.  Then when you pay your taxes you could donate to your favorite charity the interest that you received during the year.  Cool huh?

For the rest of us that don’t like our money wasted on the study of the mating habits of the Green Iguana, we would make out a check in April for what we thought was a fair amount to pay.

We could institute a program where we fill out a form to send in with our check that lists where we want our money to go and how much for each project.  You could expect to see your representative a lot more and he would likely be much more in tune with your wishes.

The difference in our government would be astounding.  Instead of telling us what they are going to do with our money (they mostly just do it without telling us), they would be selling ideas and projects to us.  They would be asking for money.  Hell, on this form you could even specify an amount for your representative’s salary.  Send him a message that he gets paid what he deserves and what we feel is a fair salary.  It really is crazy that our public servants in the upper echelons actually tell us, their bosses, how much we will pay them.

As for the holdouts, convince them that they are safe.  Coddle them.  The only real reason for them to hold out is the fear of losing what they have.  There is power in numbers and if we all get on board this or any idea then we are beyond the punishing whip of the government.

ICE CREAM

Have you been following the new thing concerning ice cream?  I wonder if there is anything that we can do on our own in this country?  I wonder where we draw the line in being careful?  If I want ice cream I want the sweetest, most fattening, most decadent ice cream that I can find.  Double fudge heavy chocolate and lots of it sounds good.  I don’t drink sugar free drinks.  If I want a huge Bratwurst dripping with animal fat followed by a gigantic slice of chocolate cake I’ll get it, eat it, and enjoy it.

How many people do we have in this country that are still alive, still happy, still healthy and grew up when we didn’t have all these watchdogs snarling at our food gates?  We probably suffer more now because of the stress that is placed on us for eating what we want than from the actual consumption.  Stress is a huge killer and ice cream reduces stress hence, BACK OFF!

From my freshman year in high school through my senior year and beyond, I wrestled.  Every season I had to make weight in order to compete.  My freshman year I wrestled at 119 pounds and 126 after that.  I didn’t like moving up a weight class but it was a natural thing being a growing boy and all.  No one followed me around and told me what to eat.  I was motivated.  Even in the summer I watched my diet so I wouldn’t have to “cut weight” with the approach of wrestling season.  I watched my weight not because I didn’t want to be fat or unhealthy but because of another motivation and dream.

I also worked.  Not at a video store or some other air-conditioned clerk type job.  I put up hay, cut tobacco, housed tobacco, milked cows, shoveled manure, and I did this every summer from 7 in the morning until dark, 7 days a week.  I didn’t grow up on a farm so it wasn’t a mandatory thing.  I worked because I wanted to.  And what do your kids do?

What kind of motivation do you give your kids?  Does your overweight kid dream of being a dancer?  It isn’t going to happen with daily McDonald’s meals.  Do you need to harp on the diet with the kid?  I don’t think so.  You need to support the dancer dream and the diet will come together.  If the kid is motivated enough to cut it in the dancer world then he’ll motivate himself with regard to diet and exercise.

However, we could knuckle under to the healthy food Nazis and let them rule our world.  How about if we are all issued a “Diet Card” by the Federal government.  We would have to carry this card with us at all times and produce it whenever we make a prepared food purchase.  Each vendor would stamp it with the caloric, fat, and cholesterol intake and when you finally get to your limit for the day or week or whatever, you would be shut off.  No card, no ice cream.

Thanks for your time.  Now I have a triple dip of Double Fudge Goop Monster ice cream in a gigantic chocolate dipped sugar cone waiting for me.  YUM!
