TERRY’S TIDBITS
By Terry Gray
BULLITT COUNTY’S WOES
Bullitt County is growing in
leaps and bounds. Population increase is generally looked upon by those in
power as a good thing because of the increase in the tax base. But Bullitt
County says that education is suffering
because of lack of money so the government voted to raise property taxes.
EXCUSE! As people move in and buy property, the tax base automatically
increases. But they have decided that even with more people paying taxes to
support the schools, that isn’t enough. Everybody must pay more. How many
people moving to Bullitt
County have kids? I guarantee you that not
everyone does. This means that the tax base increases in support of a service
that not everyone will use. And of course there are the current residents that
don’t have any kids and are shouldering the burden. Makes one want to go out
and breed, doesn’t it? After all, we want what we pay for.
MARIJUANA AND CANADA
Canada is thinking about
decriminalizing Marijuana. Good for them. It isn’t nearly as bad for you as
alcohol and tobacco. I never did understand the distinction when it came to
legalities. I really haven’t heard of too many weed smokers with serious health
problems. I have seen drinkers with liver damage, cancer, high blood pressure,
ruined homes and families, and a myriad of other terrible problems associated
with drinking. I’ve seen tobacco users with cancer, emphysema, and more. Yet
with only a few stats pointing fingers at Marijuana being “The devil weed”, we
accept the law and condone two much worse drugs. Remember, lying politicians
make our laws.
The two stats used against
Marijuana are:
Most Marijuana users go on
to other, harder drugs. WRONG. Marijuana is like beer when compared for
loyalties. Beer drinkers for the most part will stick with beer as their drug
of choice. Weed smokers do the same. The stat became skewed for propaganda
reasons. The actual stat is that most hard drug users started with Marijuana,
not the other way around. (Hey, we all have to start somewhere.) This is kind
of like saying that all petty thieves will turn to murder when the actual stat
should read that most murderers started out as petty thieves. There is a big
difference.
The second stat is that a
Marijuana joint has 4 times the tar as a cigarette. Frankly, I don’t know if
that is true. However, if it were true, a guy smoking Marijuana would have to
smoke 5 joints a day to equal a pack of cigarettes. That’s quite a bit of weed
to inhale in a day. And if so, he is still only getting the tar of a pack of
cigarettes. So what?
I’ve also heard the
argument that we have alcohol so why do we need marijuana? Hmm. We have dogs
so why do we need cats. We have Levi’s so why do we need Jordache? We have
potato chips so why do we need popcorn?
Canada is still only
looking at decriminalizing the weed. A user will get a ticket. What upset me
was the proposal to go with decriminalization. Distributing it or growing it
would still be heavily punished. That, folks, is just plain stupid.
The bottom line is that
smoking weed is victimless and far less dangerous than using tobacco or
alcohol. So what’s the deal? It’s the freedom of personal choice.
WMD
I’ve been saying for some
time now that Weapons of Mass Destruction will NOT be found in Iraq. Now I’m
not so sure. The U.N. is no longer welcome, and the military, under the
Commander and Chief, President Bush, is taking over. It will take some time for
them to ensure that the weapons are authentic in their origin, are found where
no one has looked, and can’t be traced. Getting them in there without being
caught is the hardest part of the whole operation.
The spin machine is also
working on an “out” should the operation to plant them fail. “Classified” is
the operative word. “We have found Weapons of Mass Destruction, but we can’t
disclose any information at this time. In the interest of National Security, we
must study what we have found, and until we fully understand the situation, our
findings will remain classified.” Uh-huh. This also leaves an “out” to blame
another country for the weapons should a “crisis” arise and there is the need to
“Liberate” another nation.
CRAZY “LEADERS”
I was watching 20/20 on
Friday night and a “Beautification” group in New York City was being interviewed
about the business signs and the fines being dished out for violations. The
main problem is that code enforcers can’t say exactly what the ordinances are;
they just write tickets.
The thing that really
struck me though was a statement made by one of the “Beautification” people.
When asked why the city and people in general just don’t mind their own business
and live and let live she said, “What kind of world would this be if everyone
minded his own business?” I couldn’t believe that she was serious. She really
believed that meddling in other people’s affairs was saving the world. IT
SICKENS ME.
STAY-AT-HOME MOMS
I’m one of strongest
supporters of kids and family. I think that most of the problems we have with
kids today is the lack of parental guidance. It seems to me that most parents
are too busy to be parents and they want the government or the schools to do the
job. Realistically, though, I know that in this day of high taxation, due
mostly to the Liberals wanting to give away everybody else’s money, it is hard
for a parent to take on that job full time. So I can sympathize to a certain
degree.
Something scary occurred to
me that inspired this piece. What if the problems that we have with our kids
aren’t due to lack of parental supervision? What if those problems are BECAUSE
of parental supervision? What if most stay-at-home moms are Liberal Demon-crats
instilling those values on their kids? Man, I have to think about this one. Do
we want kids running free, falling in with the wrong crowd and possibly becoming
a blight on society or do we want them influenced by Demon-crat Liberals that
instill the values that will definitely make them a blight on society? Hmm,
food for thought.
MANDATORY THIS!
I’ve recently gone off
about seat belts and motorcycle helmets and the stupidity surrounding their
mandatory use. Now there comes an issue of mandatory life jackets on boats.
A recent boating accident
that involved several adults and resulted in the deaths of some of them has
brought this issue to light. The people in the accident had the option of
wearing life jackets but chose not to. That is the right of free adults isn’t
it?
This boat was in rough seas
in 50-degree water. I am a strong swimmer, but my butt would have been in a
life jacket. One man couldn’t swim. He wasn’t wearing a life jacket. The genes
that affected his judgment in this life-and-death matter are now forever lost at
sea. WHAT WAS THIS MAN THINKING?
In a televised interview
with some of the survivors, one of them said that he believed that a mandatory
life jacket law should be enacted. Yes, we all need the government to tell us
that things are dangerous and how we should prepare for that danger. I guess
that in the next WMD scare we should look forward to mandatory plastic and duct
tape. These people are nuts, plain and simple.
I think that if we are
going to mandate anything it should be that Ice Cream vendors in their ugly
trucks change their music every other day.
SOCIAL SECURITY – Again
There are many, many people
concerned about Social Security. I’m concerned as well simply because I pay
into that TAX system. I don’t do it because I want to but because it is ripped
from me and gone from my control. Who controls it? The folks that don’t pay
the TAX themselves. Why don’t they pay? The reason given is that they make
enough money that they won’t have to use the system when they retire. Who are
these people? They are political office holders and their supporters. This
Social Security TAX thing and benefit system is for the little people. It is
the special system just for the little people. The big people run it for us
because we are incapable of doing it ourselves. We are also incapable of
planning for our own futures and financial responsibility. Thank you big
people.
So what is the real reason
for the big people not paying into the Social Security System? Because they
don’t want to pay it, it is below them. No one has challenged the fact that
this TAX is a Socialist TAX and as such should be paid by all people. It, by
its own definition, is a support tax for society. Social Security reform, shy
of getting rid of the system, should be a TAX for everyone.
When we utilize a Socialist
program in this Republic that we call a Democracy we must abide by the Socialist
rules that would govern any Socialist program. After all, we have socialized
education. Are neutered people exempt? “Hey Joe, I’m getting my testicles
clipped this week, how I look forward to spending the extra money that I’ll save
on school tax.”
“Hey Sally, got my tubes
tied last week. Come on, lunch is on me?”
Wouldn’t that be a hoot?
FORMER GOVERNOR HOWARD DEAN
This man, this little big
man made a statement on Meet The Press that he is “Happy to apologize for his
mistakes.” That is a lie. No one is “happy” to apologize about a mistake. I
know of no one that says, “I GET to apologize for that screw up. What a
glorious day.” Instead, people say, “I HAVE to apologize for that blunder. I
really screwed up.”
He is against gun control
yet he maintains the idea of Federal Laws on guns. He supports state’s rights
to fine-tune those laws. Our constitution says that the right to bear arms
“shall not be abridged.” Any law outside of that constitutional right is in
violation of our constitutional rights. It is very simple.
I speak of this man because
he is a possible candidate for President. He wants to raise taxes as a way of
balancing the budget. I believe that he should be happy to apologize for being
alive.
