OUR FREEDOMS By Terry Gray
There is a whole lot to think about when it comes to our security as a nation. The federal government’s prime purpose is to protect those freedoms. It is a big task, with many federal organizations involved in the process, including the new department of Homeland Security. I wrote an article for The Jefferson Review that appeared on August 5, 2002 called The Freedom Trade. I addressed the freedom of the American people versus the security of our citizens. It was obvious then and is obvious now that 911 was used by our government to play upon the fears of Americans and provide the government with the tools needed to take our freedoms from us. Hitler, in a successful bid for more power, told the German people that they must lay aside some of their freedoms in order for their government to better protect them from foreign invaders. Sound familiar? I think that one basic question needs to be asked of each of us: Whom do you trust with your life? Do you trust your government to save you to the extent that you are willing to eliminate the possibility of saving yourself? After all is said and done and it is just you against death, will you cry out for Uncle Sam with your last breath? I believe that most of us, even Liberals, will turn inside of themselves, petition their God, and fight tooth and nail to defend their own lives. Ours is still a very young government. Some of you may use this as an excuse for the unwise ways of our leaders in the belief that our government is still growing. I say that, in a mere 200 years of “growth”, our government has torn apart our Constitution and learned very well how to disrespect our personal freedoms. We have been lied to so long that it has become not only accepted but also expected. So, in the end who is really most concerned about your life, your hopes, your smiles, your freedoms? Who is going to make a stand when the bad guys bust down your door? You, or your government? The way things are going, chances are that the bad guys busting down your door will BE your government. Just keep playing along.
