Hi Resa, I'm back!!!! After reading your comments regarding Bill Bennett's so called "gambling problem" (who says it is a problem?? by whose standards??), and the alternative way to fix his "problem" (after all, if something is a "problem", that in itself implies a "fix" or "remedy" is called for), for a second there I thought I was reading something written by a socialist (maybe it was just the number of times the word "social" and it's variations appeared throughout). Of course, I knew better than that, which made me re-read the piece once again. It did make me reflect a bit. My thoughts when I first heard of the "problem" - thoughts that I think are also more consistent with your philosophy - is simple. How about we just all respect each others rights to our own property, mind our own business, and not cast judgments on each other as to what we individually choose to do with our own assets? If the Bennett family, or Bill himself, thinks he has a "problem", let us again mind our own business and leave the solution to them. This would go well for Bennett himself, who, if memory serves me correctly, is also a property rights advocate.. If people spend their own earned money on drugs, it is their own business. If they steal money to buy drugs, prosecute them up for stealing. If I choose not to associate with people who spend their own money on drugs, that is my choice. If they choose not to associate with me because I gamble my own money, that is their choice. If we all devoted as much time to our own business as is devoted to other people's business, what a dull and wonderful world we would live in!
