LEGAL MURDER

By Terry Gray

The grand jury failed to indict the police officer who shot and killed James Taylor.  I cannot bring myself to say or write the name of the cop, because I lose total control of my ability to write.

I am a white man; probably the most discriminated against person on the entire planet.  I have little to complain about in life, but the complaints that I do have are of monstrous proportions to me.  I don’t like that, when it comes to jobs or social benefits or restrictive clubs, I come in no better than second when the selections are made.  Quotas need to be filled, social benefits are for those that have inherited the lifestyle of living off the taxpayers, and those who have their own stuff to which I am not welcome are constantly challenging restrictive clubs meant for the likes of me.

I have my biases, and all of us do.  Anyone who claims otherwise is a damn liar.  But I choose my biases fairly.  Some use the terms bias and prejudice interchangeably.  They are not the same.  Prejudice is a response or idea about anything not yet experienced by the person showing prejudice.  Ignorance is a major factor in prejudice.  Bias on the other hand is a learned response.  A bias can be good or bad.  I have an almost worshipping bias toward 1975 Fiat 124 Sport Convertibles, British racing green with tan tops.  I have a demonic bias against beets.  God did not mean for us to eat that stuff but He loved it when I roared down A1A in South Florida in my Fiat with the top down on a sunny day.

I have a rational bias against being handcuffed.  It is a learned reaction to an uncomfortable situation.  You know that no possible good can come from it.  Had any of my experiences with being handcuffed been associated with a date with twin blondes, then any bias toward handcuffs would no doubt be different from my perspective.  However, had I ever been shot at while in handcuffs, I’m sure that my date with the blondes would be quickly forgotten.

The Reverend Louis Coleman would have us believe that this incident was racially motivated.  But the Reverend Coleman would have us believe that people don’t like the dark because it’s black.  If he thought about, it he would fight to have more black jellybeans.  The Reverend Coleman is racial, probably one of the most racial people that I know of.  He isn’t wrong in his belief that this shooting was wrong, but it wasn’t wrong for the reasons that spout from his never-ending verbal tirade.

This was not racial.  It was the act of a scared, under trained, armed, irresponsible person.  This cop needs to be relieved of duty now that there are no charges against him.  He is ineffective and will be even more ineffective if he is put back on the streets.  (Even during my tirade on the James Taylor incident I had doubts.  I'm human.  This article paints a picture that promotes the doubt.  I still don't believe that 12 shots were necessary but hey, I wasn't there.  When cops shoot – a half second to decide and a lifetime to remember http://www.fredoneverything.net/yyShootNoShoot.shtml)

The Reverend Coleman is now calling for a boycott of all white businesses in Louisville.  Hey, Rev, what kind of crap is that?  I’m white and I agree that the shooting was wrong.  I don’t believe that I’ve spoken to anyone, white or black who believes that the shooting was justified.  So you are going to punish all whites because some crazed white cop shot a black man?  Son, you are digging your own grave.  It is almost impossible to tell whether blacks or whites own a business, but in either event black employees are involved.  Are you going to boycott businesses where blacks are employed to hurt whitey?  What are you going to tell your brothers and sisters who lose their jobs because their employers can’t afford to pay them?  If you don’t believe that your boycott is going to affect the brothers’ jobs then the boycott is useless anyway because it obviously isn’t going to affect the business owners.  Just what is your motivation, Coleman?  It seems to me that you just want to broaden a gap that you profess to want to close.

Yes, I’ve rambled AGAIN.  So what?  This is my avenue to spout off.  At least I’m not out boycotting black stuff because some black guy did something to some white guy.

The system is wrong here, clearly.  So are you, Reverend Coleman.
