Legislators Should Read The Bills!     By Claude Bohn     A February 14^th Courier-Journal headline announced: “Lawmaker secretly alters budget bill”. The article stated: “Rep. Joe Barrows, D-Versailles, violated an unwritten agreement to refrain from offering controversial amendments that could delay passage of the bill and left some members wondering what else Barrows may have written into the budget without their knowledge.”  (Editor’s note:  the change that was slipped into the bill would provide money toward renovating Rupp Arena.)  (click to read more)

Media not Revealing Whole Story on Iraq      By Joy Cornett     Our media is not divulging information regarding the situation with the civilians of Iraq. Twelve years ago during the Gulf War, the military dictated what the U.S. media could and could not report on. The press was not allowed to see the destruction of the civilian neighborhoods. Bill Targets Hairdressers     By George Baumler      Kentucky House bill number 210 seeks to raise the license fee for cosmetology, an increase opposed by Judy Valla of Judy's Wave Revue, a beauty salon in the Germantown neighborhood.  The notion that the state should regulate and license beauty shops shows just how invasive the tentacles of state government are. Take Back Louisville Group Officially Organized Feb. 8, 2003      Take Back Louisville, a citizen watchdog and lobbying group, officially formed on February 8, 2003, electing a slate of officers and preparing to keep an eye on Louisville’s new metro government.  Take Back Louisville is a coalition of neighborhood and citizens’ groups, and is a spin-off of Take Back Kentucky, which has been very effective with respect to state government.  (click to read more)
