Take Back Louisville Has Its Inaugural Meeting

By Theresa Fritz Camoriano

A new citizens’ lobbying group, called “Take Back Louisville”, had its inaugural meeting on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at Ryan’s on Preston Highway.  Clint Hardy served as the organizer and moderator, and about 60 people attended, including many members of third parties, people who lobbied against the VET, and many others.  Metro Council members Doug Hawkins (Dist. 25) and James Peden (Dist. 23) also attended.  The group intends to help the new Louisville Metro government promote a constitutional agenda (pro property rights, pro gun rights, pro family) and be responsive to the will of the taxpayers.

Norm Davis, the organizer of the very successful “Take Back Kentucky” coalition, said that elected officials need the group’s help to review proposed legislation and understand it.  That is one of the areas in which Take Back Kentucky has been very effective, and many state elected officials rely on the analysis it provides.  Norm talked about Smart Growth and the harm it has done in Florida and other places in which he is now helping people form their own “Take Back” coalitions.  He also described the various groups that are now active in Kentucky.  Norm also mentioned that there should not be any new proposals to regulate home school families in Kentucky this session, because Take Back Kentucky organized to defeat Barbara Coulter in her party’s primary, so she will not be back to make such proposals in the future.  When citizens work together, they can get things done!

At the end of the meeting, Virgil Moore, who plans to run for governor, stopped by to meet the group and seek its support.

Take Back Louisville’s next meeting will be the second Saturday of February, again at Ryan’s at 11:00, when officers will be elected and an agenda will be adopted.  The organization plans to have a web site.  For statewide issues, check the Take Back Kentucky web site at http://www.TakeBackKentucky.org
