Remembers Randy Atcher

As so many of us Locals can
attest...... I made my television debut with Randy Atcher and "Cactus" Tom
Brooks, on T Bar V Ranch Time.
I can still remember the
occasion vividly. It was my 6th Birthday. I had a new dress, bobby socks, and a
Shirley Temple doll . What more could a little girl want in 1957?
I remember nervously going on the stage, holding my doll, and Randy Atcher
telling me not to cover my face with my doll, as the camera focused on me.
I got to wave into the
audience and say hi to my mommie, and daddy, my two sisters, my grandmothers,
and a pet or two. My parents had a photographer there to mark this historical
occasion, and to this day I keep the picture on my mantle in my living room.
There is something about
the innocence and naiveté of childhood that makes me want these old relics to
clutter up my house. After all, life was beautiful !!
At age 6, I had never
suffered any "losses" and knew of no evil in the world. I had heard my dad talk
about World War 2 a little, but that was very abstract to me and I had never
experienced any violence or killing. On TV, which was a relatively " new"
invention, I watched Howdy -Dowdy Time and Babes in Toyland!! My mother stayed
home, my father brought home the bacon, and we played with the kids on the
street and had big birthday parties and always invited everyone. We ate fish
sticks. I had never heard of broccoli in those days! Talk about BLISS!!
Contrast the world
2002.....
On a daily basis I wait for
e-mail from my loving son David who is serving our country in the Air Force in
Korea. Thank you Bill Gates for giving me a home computer,
and Thank you Randy Atcher
for giving me my 30 seconds of Fame on my 6th birthday, in the "good old days".
May your soul rest in peace.
Speaking of Peace, I would
sure like to see a little more of it going on in America and around the globe
today !! But that's another essay, altogether.
