EXTREME STUPIDITY CONTINUED

By Terry Gray

I wrote an article in the Jefferson Review on July 29, 2002 about the Extreme Park, called EXTREME STUPIDITY.  I forewarned of the things to come.  In paragraph three of my little expose’ I said, “The problems in the park will allow the city to create a few more little rules and open the door to more regulation.  It’s a typical government scam.”  WAS I RIGHT?  You betcha’.

Today is the one-month anniversary of that article, and new helmet laws are in front of the Aldermen as we speak.  These laws are far-reaching and ridiculous.  Helmet laws for bikes, skateboards, and roller-skates not just in the Extreme Park, but also all over the city.  When you give these morons an inch, they eat the whole cake.  Actually we didn’t even give them the inch, they created the inch and are stealing the cake.

We, the taxpayers (BOSSES with no power) have no say in the matter.  We gave up the right to have a say when we bought into the idea that Aldermen are representative of our wishes.  Did your Alderman ask you what you thought about a citywide helmet law?  Do you just sit there and say in a resounding but feeble and unheard voice, “NO.”?

“But what can I do?” You cry.

Get the garbage out of city hall, that’s what!

There’s an election coming up.  Do something about this crap.  Look away from the Democrats and Republicans for a CHANGE.  Those people follow their party’s platforms and doctrines and don’t give a damn about you.  Has anything really changed since we have effectively had a two party system?  I say YES.  Yes it has changed but not for the better.  All over America there are people screaming for freedom and wanting a choice, but the status quo political parties cash in on their positions, call in favors, denigrate their independent opponents, and just muck it all up with promises to you that are never fulfilled.  Take it if you want but live with it.

In the Forum section of a recent Courier-Journal publication, the newspaper for backward thinkers and liberals, there were some letter writers who saw the light.  God bless them.

Rod Botkins writes, “…What’s next, pedestrians need to wear helmets when crossing the street?  Why not drivers?” and, “I need a mayor, not another mother.”  You are real close Rod.  At least Rod sees that this stupidity never ends.

Tony Tobbe thinks we should fill the Extreme Park in with concrete and build an NBA-size arena.  He wants to call it Armstrong Arena.

Lynn Rowland is a little confused but has the right idea when she writes, “For once let’s finish the good we have started.” I agree but in fairness to Lynn, I took this statement out of context.  She is all for the Park.  I don’t think that many people are against the Park, Lynn.  I think it is a great idea.  It is just that it is a tool for the government at our expense.  I will disagree with Lynn on a couple of issues.  She calls Louisville a world-class city.  We are not a world-class city and do we want to be?  We are Louisville Kentucky, for God’s sake.  We are not New York, Paris, or London.  I, for one, don’t want to be.  I also don’t think that one can attribute a skate park with being, “…in the future now.”  Come on Lynn, that’s a little heavy and dramatic isn’t it?

Okay, I got a little wordy again but there is a lot to talk about and a lot to do.  It has taken years for those that we elect to screw up what our founding fathers intended for this country, and it will take years to fix.  We have to start now with fresh, new approaches.  We don’t need worn out and tired politicians representing political parties instead of people and claiming to have the answers while digging us in deeper.

You are welcome to call or write me.  The paper has my info.  My website is http://TERRYGRAY.INTENT.NET.

Thanks.
