THE FREEDOM TRADE

by Terry Gray

We are being steamrollered by propaganda on terrorism.  Anyone with a different idea is potentially a terrorist.  This “war on terrorism” is nothing more than an excuse to give the federal government more power.  The catalyst for this “war” was of course, 9-11.  It is being used to play on the heartstrings of the American people just like all the other devices that the government uses to control us.

I’m not a violent person most days, but I feel that when 9-11 happened and we got to the root of it we should have ended it right then.  We could have made an example of those Godless people and at the same time ridded the world of the kind of crap that continues in their neck of the woods.  They are nothing more than jealous of us Capitalist dogs and in their ignorance they know no way to compete so they kill.  So be it!  We kill back in mass.  Let them be jealous of our big bombs as well.

Now on to the title of this story.  Since when do we have to give up our freedom to ensure our freedom?  “You must make sacrifices in order for your government to do its job.”  That is crap.  Do your damn job anyway.  If you’d keep your noses out of our daily lives and live up to the responsibilities with which you have been entrusted, you may be able to perform without demanding sacrifices from us.

I’ll not give an inch on my personal freedom except to go to jail defending it. Yes, in that regard I’ll take less freedom to fight for my freedom but not at the government’s whim.

There are several reasons for this stance that I take.  Some are small and some are personal but for the most part I feel that the government is only using this as a tool.  The biggest problem with voluntarily giving up a freedom, even for a just cause, is that we will never get it back.  A little freedom here, a little freedom there and the toehold is established.  We learn to live within the confines of those losses, the government maintains the loss, and we forget.  They count on that.  We get “Atta boys” and “We are doing a good job with your help” and “Thank you for your much needed sacrifices”.  Then the back slapping slowly goes away so that we forget; the losses remain but the reasons are unclear and unaddressed.  The government simply keeps what we gave them and goes on with the business of creating another crisis to expand the toehold that they established before.

I still hear, “If you don’t like it here then move.  Get out.”  If this notion were applied to all things that we feel could be better, nothing would get better.  We’d still be living in caves.  You see, our forefathers recognized the need for the freedom to change things, to speak up, to carve our own initials in the fibers of our land.  Do not give up your freedoms lest the freedom to be your own man be swept from you like a wildfire.  Do not lay down kindling but carry your own torch.  This is not a game, and the losses are not marks on a tote board. The losses are fibers of the noose used to strangle your freedom. This is serious.  I am serious.  We should all be serious about our freedom.  Don’t let them buy you with baubles while you give them your Constitution and Bill of Rights.  Make them do their damn jobs for a change.
