A Healthy Distrust For Power By Theresa Fritz Camoriano Americans have always had a healthy distrust for power. We know, as Lord Acton said, "Power corrupts". With the recent corporate scandals at Enron, Worldcom, and elsewhere, our distrust of power has been aimed at large corporations. Unfortunately, with so much finger pointing and haste to "do something" about the problem, a critical sense of proportion has been lost, which will cost us dearly. In our panicked effort to protect ourselves from the power of corporations, we are increasing and unleashing a much more dangerous power. Light rail busted By George Baumler Light rail supporters cling to an antiquated idea that people still live and work in small areas, like plastic figures on a scale model choo-choo-train layout. In reality, the population of Jefferson County lives and works over a huge landscape, covering approximately 385 square miles. The largest portion, over 80% of all employment, is located outside of the traditional downtown locations and would be ill served by a trolley that runs to and from points that account for less than 20% of employment in the greater metro area. WHAT ABOUT THE VICTIMS? By Woody Oakes The Martin County Coal Company is to pay a record fine for the slurry dam spill of 300 million gallons. The State of Ky. will receive $500,000 of the fine for costs the State incurred in responding to the disaster. ENVIRONMENTALISTS' URBAN LEGEND: THAT LIGHT RAIL IS POLLUTION FREE by Tom Bazan The Houston media has fawned over Light Rail Transit (LRT), parroting the METRO press releases and computer generated graphics without bothering to research the facts. THE FREEDOM TRADE by Terry Gray We are being steamrollered by propaganda on terrorism. Anyone with a different idea is potentially a terrorist. This “war on terrorism” is nothing more than an excuse to give the federal government more power. The catalyst for this “war” was of course, 9-11. It is being used to play on the heartstrings of the American people just like all the other devices that the government uses to control us.

“New studies show that, contrary to popular mythology, the average home-schooled child has no problem “socializing” with other children… as long as he remembers to use smaller words and shorter sentences.”
