Zoning or the power of pull By George Baumler "Not in my backyard" is the battle cry of the zoning zealots, who view themselves as lords of all they survey. The central planning bureaucrats churn out a plethora of complex rules and regulations that constitute zoning laws, which are supposed to keep business out of certain neighborhoods and prevent excess business competition in others. Zoning - Is A Little Bit of Theft A Good Thing? by Theresa Fritz Camoriano If we consider property rights as they were understood by Locke, Jefferson, Bastiat and other classical liberals, then we understand that each person has the right to do what he wishes with his own property as long as he does not infringe on his neighbor's similar right to the peaceful enjoyment of his property. The common law has operated on that principle for hundreds of years, permitting the use of government force to prevent or remedy trespass and nuisance, but otherwise leaving people free to use their own property as they choose. Libertarians Visit Fiscal Court To Comment on Proposed Light Rail Project By Will Freedom Donna Mancini, Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Kentucky and 2000 congressional candidate, addressed the Jefferson County Fiscal Court July 23rd, 2002. The Court allows citizens to address the Court on any issues or concerns they may have, before the regular business of the court is conducted. The outspoken Libertarian, in her three-minute address, gave the Jefferson County Fiscal Court an earful on the financially unsound trolley scheme planned for the metro Louisville area, pointing out that, by TARC's own numbers, the proposed light rail project will cost $36,000 per rider. EXTREME STUPIDITY By Terry Gray I’m no rocket scientist as most of our fearless leaders are, so I wasn’t prepared for the deluge of accidents occurring in the Extreme Park. It took me by surprise that our fearless leaders expected anything different though. HAS THE "INFECTION" SPREAD? Kathy Lyons Words matter. In recent weeks we’ve heard a lot of them being flung around in the wake of revelations of corporate fraud. Dozens of emails went out over the internet begging citizens to contact their congress critters and tell them to "jail the bastards." Members of congress, with one eye on their portfolios and the other on their campaign war chests, began beating their breasts and echoing those emails. Where Are We Headed? by Norman Davis After WWI, the German people set up a democracy and never dreamed it could be done away with until the Reichstag was blown up. They then lost their freedoms when the government had to implement draconian measures to "protect the homeland." GROWING UP IN COAL MINING COUNTRY By Woody Oakes Recently, I wrote an article critical of the eastern Kentucky coal mining industry. Maybe a few words about myself will help you understand why I am so interested in what happens in that area. Don’t cha get the point? By Claude Bohn “The law perverted! And the police powers of the state perverted along with it! The law, I say, not only turned from its proper purpose but, made to follow an entirely contrary purpose! The law, become the weapon of every kind of greed! Instead of checking crime, the law itself guilty of the evils it is supposed to punish! - Frederic Bastiat, The Law (1850). Recognizing a Federal Reserve Slave by Ed Lewis It goes without saying that most people called American Citizens believe themselves to be free. After all, they aren’t incarcerated and they can choose to go where they want and when they want. They can get married if they want and have children if they want. They can own property and use it any way they wish.

The Sustainable Development Swastika?
The sad irony is that it is the self-righteous activists who are exploiting Third World people -- politically -- and the much demonized employers who hire them who are providing the poor with much-needed income. Thomas Sowell
