Take Back Kentucky Chooses
Senator Leeper as Legislator Of The Year
By Norm Davis
Take Back
Kentucky has selected Kentucky Senator Robert J. Leeper to receive the
“Legislator Of The Year 2002” award for his outstanding service and availability
to his constituents.
Senator Leeper was chosen
among 8 finalists with similar voting records. Senator Leeper was chosen above
the others for his availability and his ability to not favor ‘paid lobbyists’
over the average citizen. He has an outstanding record for returning calls to
his constituents.
Unfortunately, many of our
elected officials either neglect or refuse to return constituents’ calls.
Senator Leeper is certainly not one of these legislators. A recent case in point
being the present administration desiring to loan state monies by bonding to an
out of state company that could have cost jobs to Kentuckians who are employed
by Kentucky family owned businesses. Senator Leeper was contacted by his
constituents, and the very next day he was himself in Frankfort.
His comments to his
constituents was, “this is wrong, we need to take care of Kentuckians first!”
When this matter came up before a committee he led the charge to stop this. The
committee voted unanimously to oppose this funding of an out of state company
with taxpayer dollars above Kentucky companies.
Senator Leeper was among
only 11 who voted to protect Kentucky jobs by voting against H.B. 174. Senator
Leeper has consistently voted to protect individual rights, rights of property
owners, rights of gun owners and all other rights granted under the Bill of
Rights by our Constitution of Kentucky regardless of which party or legislator
introduces legislation that would infringe upon Kentucky citizens’ individual
rights.
Senator Leeper also opposes
funding Kentucky politicians running for office above funding our Kentucky
schools, repairing our roads, or providing funding for our law enforcement
officers. We applaud Senator Leeper for this.
Senator Leeper has proven
himself to be a Senator “of the people” and for this we thank him and award him.
