Read my lips. Don't watch my hands.
By Rick Stanley
(DENVER, 3:00 PM) Despite paying lip service to patriotism, America, and liberty
and justice for all -- not to mention the Second Amendment -- the Bush
administration and W's appointees continue to ride roughshod over
everyone's unalienable rights.
The latest act in this political saga, as reported in the
Washington Post* today, was played out in D.C. Superior
Court when the U.S. District Attorney's office argued
that the District's handgun ban should be upheld. This
argument contrasts starkly with Ashcroft's recent
directive stating that the Second Amendment guarantees
an individual right to keep and bear arms.
Like father, like son.
Apparently the Bush family thinks we're still reading
their lips and not paying any attention to their hands.
This latest slap in the face of all American gun owners
is just one of many ways the Bush administration is
trying to fool the American people.
Last September Bush said he wants all Americans to be
safe. He then proceeded to sign the "Patriot Act," which
nullifies the Bill of Rights. This makes us safer?
Like father, like son. Please read my lips. Don't watch
my hands.
Just two months ago the President said he wanted to
encourage free trade and liberty. He then proceeded to
slap a 30% tariff on some imported steel products, and a
29% tariff on imported softwood lumber from Canada. Now
new home prices will rise, and the cost of some manufactured goods will rise as
well. Again, how does
that help you and me?
Like father, like son. Please read my lips. Don't watch
my hands.
Just the other day Bush the younger said that the
Constitution protects the individual's right to keep
and bear arms, much to the relief of gun owners and
gun rights supporters across the nation. Then what did
he do? He ordered Ashcroft and the U.S. Attorney to
support the D.C. handgun ban!
Like father, like son. Please read my lips. Don't watch
my hands.
On the same day he slapped gun owners in the face with his
lawyers Bush said, "We intend to honor our Constitution
and respect the freedoms that we hold so dear."** Then he
proceeded to grant broad new powers to the FBI, bypassing the Bill of Rights
once again.
Do you still wonder why I don't trust our current
government?
Well, America, I just gave you the proof. Your President --
like most politicians -- says one thing and does another.
Here in Colorado we have Benedict Allard - who lied to
gun owners to get to Washington -- and Thomas Strickland,
whose favorite pastime is victim disarmament. Their words
ring hollow. They do not support the Second Amendment.
Are you going to sit back and take it? Are you going to
applaud their deceitfulness by voting for them again?
Enough is enough. It's time to restore the Constitution
and the Bill of Rights. The Republicans and Democrats feel
completely comfortable lying to you, and to me, and to
everybody else in America. They are stealing our rights
fight out from under our noses -- and they're lying
through their teeth to do it.
It's time for true Americans to stand together in defense
of liberty. We can't let our President, the Attorney
General, and Congress continue this charade.
Join me in the Second American Revolution. We'll use
ballots -- not bullets -- to send these traitors packing.
Mr. President, we're watching your hands. Your lip service
cannot hide them any longer.
